We’re looking for a Director, Software Engineering to help us grow the engineering team at Starship and further establish our culture. Here at Starship, user experience is our leading philosophy, requiring our engineering teams to build the best product out there. The Starship experience is founded on Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior Driven Development (BDD) principles, making sure we deliver with confidence and optimize for the ever-changing environment. Our engineers work in cross functional squads, alongside design and PMs, delivering high-quality solutions. Our ideal candidate has strong leadership skills and a proven record of managing high-performing engineering teams

Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and monitor all operations and key performance metrics/operational efficiency for the engineering team
- Manages and ensures projects are completed on time and in scope
- Manages a team of high performing technical team, recruiting and developing them in their career
- Adapts program plans and priorities to address business, technical and operational challenges
- Recommend new ideas to improve efficiency
- Provides subject matter expertise in areas of software delivery, project scope definition, risk identification, project methodology, resource allocation, facilitation and other areas of expertise based on established product, program, and project management techniques
- Works with Business SME’s, Engineers, UX designers and other team members to ensure the project plan is accurately documented, tracked, managed and reported
- May oversee work activities to other team members, to ensure quality deliverables that meet program needs and requirements
- Strikes a balance between throughput and stability
- Sets team direction, resolves problems and provides guidance to members of the team
- Presents to management on product updates, project cycle, and expected results
- Provides innovative solutions to technical challenges

Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in executive stakeholder management and presentations
- Collaborates with product leadership to ensure project milestones are met
- 10+ years of experience in technical software engineering
- Experiencing delivering technical products to an active user base in a live production environment
- 6+ years of experience of managing (manager or director title) technical engineering teams
- Demonstrated leadership techniques of managing high-performing development teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a banking, or a financial institution
- Experience working in the healthcare or insurance industry
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical field
- A solid moral compass and commitment to Starship’s core values of inclusion, empowerment, and trust
- A sense of empathy for others, both end users and your collaborators
- Experience managing a geographically dispersed team
- Willingness and drive to work in a fast-paced startup environment
- Deep knowledge of industry trends and best practices
- Experience in working within large organizations

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
