Director – Financial Inclusion Channels & Segments, ESG Products

Overview
There remains about 1.4 billion people in the world who do not have an account at a financial institution or through a mobile money provider, with women, poor adults, and less educated adults continuing to make up most people excluded from the formal financial sector. This does not include the estimated millions of people who are underbanked and underserved who may have access to a financial or transactional account but are not benefitting fully from formal financial services to grow savings, access credit, and improve the quality of their lives. Mastercard are passionate about addressing this inequality and have committed to bringing 1B unbanked and underserved individuals into the digital economy by 2025. The Global Financial Inclusion team in ESG Products are responsible for setting, evolving, and tracking Mastercard’s Financial Inclusion strategy and developing innovative solutions that better respond to changes in the ground reality. The team has a vision to advance financial inclusion in a sustainable and responsible way where individuals and businesses prosper through innovation and scalable solutions.

Being the leader in this space, Mastercard have significant knowledge and experience with over 300 programs in place and having already reached over 500M unbanked and underbaked individuals. It is our responsibility to continue to push for progress, ensure rigorous measurement and tracking, and share thought leadership.

Role
The Financial Inclusion Channels & Segments Director will work on the Financial Inclusion Channels & Segments team report directly to the VP Financial Inclusion Channels & Segments, and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the following:

  • Work with cross-functional regional, business and support teams to identify challenges and barriers to driving more business from financial inclusion channels and segments and provide subject matter expertise and support to overcome challenges and drive business.
  • Provide insights that support the go-to-market and market performance of financial inclusion products and solutions through the various stages of the product lifecycle (e.g., ideation, prototyping, piloting, market launch, commercialization, feature enhancements, and scaling) to maximize business value of financial inclusion products and solutions
  • Understand the market landscape, business case drivers, ecosystem requirements for reaching key underserved consumer segments
  • Become a subject matter expert on key underserved consumer segments accessing and using financial services and/or having their financial services needs met; creating and maintaining insights based on an understanding of their needs, desires, and pain points (e.g., personas, user stories, journey mapping, value proposition, user experience, dialogue with consumers, etc.)
  • Work with the Financial Inclusion Product team to be an advocate for the consumer segments, channel partners, and market teams; understand the technical processes required to develop products and solutions; provide feedback on solutions to ensure B2B customer and consumer needs are met in line with insights and findings
  • Be an ambassador representing Mastercard’s financial inclusion work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Understand from customer-facing and market development teams the business objectives and drivers of Mastercard’s existing and potential customers that are priority channels to reach strategic segments of the financially underserved (e.g., Government, Fintechs, Telcos, etc.), as well as the ecosystem players needed to deliver financial services to the underserved
  • Collect information from customer-facing and market teams in Mastercard regions to formulate and document best practices, lessons learned, and enabling factors that drove results in existing financial inclusion products, services, and programs to share across Mastercard for potential replication in other markets

All About You
  • Have a deep industry and market knowledge; have helicopter view and able to move between strategic and tactical levels
  • Demonstrated business acumen and ability to manage integrated product solutions spanning multiple channels/segments (i.e., issuer, acquirer, merchant, cardholder, local, regional, global)
  • B.A. required, MBA or Master's degree strongly preferred
  • Able to work in complex business environment, to multi-task and manage multiple x-functional partners
  • Have an experience to build and execute quantifiable plans, analytical thinking
  • Have a good understanding of the product offering; demonstrate proven ability to develop and successfully implement new products and portfolios initiatives
  • We are looking for an experienced lead that has deep understanding of consumer segments, their needs and how to design and deliver consumer value propositions in partnership with indsutry key satkeholders (issuers, merchants, acquirers, etc.)
  • Able to demonstrate strong influencing and negotiation skills; good networking in sales/ account teams
  • Have an entrepreneurial approach and vision
  • Have strong communication and presentation skills (written and oral)
