Job Description
The Director, Principal Giving will be responsible for developing and ensuring execution on strategy and portfolio management for the VP - Individual Giving, Chief Development Officer, and CEO to identify, close and steward principal gift (>$1 million) relationships with individuals, and for meeting a significant annual revenue goal.


This position will report to the VP, Individual Giving and will be based at HFHI’s Administrative Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia or work remotely.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Establish a strategic and systematic focus on managing the executive team’s work to close seven-figure commitments from high net-worth individuals.
  • Work collaboratively with program teams and communications to develop compelling proposals for principal gifts.
  • Attend and participate in CDO calendar meetings for strategy around travel and donor meetings.
  • Prepare CEO, SVP and VP for face-to-face visits and other activities with donors.
  • Guide the development of compelling proposals and oversee the development of creative presentations and reports to be presented by the CEO, SVP and VP.
  • Provide daily operational oversight on behalf of the VP Individual Giving and actively drive the individual & planned giving strategic operational plan, ensuring clear communication, reporting, execution, status updates, and alignment with Chief Development Officer, Director of Resource Development Planning, and other HFHI cross functional partners.
  • Provide accurate and timely activity and pipeline reports and revenue forecasts.
  • Provide continuity and follow through on behalf of the VP Individual Giving by attending meetings of relevance to the VP on his behalf, when necessary, to represent & convey VPs POV &/or document outcomes, recommendations, &/or requested follow-up.
  • Partner with CEO, SVP and VP to prioritize CEO and SVP donor-facing travel.
  • Liaison with individual and planned giving teams, executives, other internal staff, and external philanthropic network.
  • Support lead generation from VP of IG, CDO and CEO through research requests, managing CRM plans and records and creatively looking for ways to engage new prospects.


Minimum Requirements


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Years of Related Experience: At least 10 years of experience


Qualifications


  • Strategic business planning and project management experience in a fast-paced business environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful fundraising in an environment of similar complexity.
  • Superior presentation skills, including the presence to deal effectively with diverse constituencies including principal donors, Board members, national staff, and leadership in the field.
  • Capacity to partner & work effectively cross culturally and uphold HFHIs commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to engage senior managers and board members, and to earn and maintain their confidence.
  • Demonstrated track record of execution of donor plans with excellence including strategic thinking, proposal development, negotiation with internal leadership to form strong opportunities for donor investment.
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector in a fundraising capacity securing individual gifts from ultra-high net worth donors.
  • Ability to collaborate with others in a complex, matrix-structured, dynamic organizational environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively, and to listen, and a capacity to engage, inspire and persuade.


Preferred Requirements (in Addition To Minimum)


  • Active support of HFHI Values:

  • One or more of the following: Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP), Accredited Estate Planner (AEP), or Certified Financial Planner (CFP)

  • Experience partnering with & stewarding a diverse philanthropic network.
