Summary
Wake Forest University has made a commitment to holistic wellbeing for students, faculty, and staff. The Director serves as a member of the Health & Wellbeing leadership team and is the campus leader for the assessment, strategic development, and implementation of innovative evidence-based health promotion approaches. The Director stays abreast of intersecting national and higher education trends regarding effective prevention and health promotion activities, overseeing and coordinating the work of health promotion professionals into a comprehensive program for the campus community. The Director consults with campus partners and constituents regarding alignment with comprehensive campus wellbeing initiatives.

Essential Functions:
  • Manages the Office of Wellbeing’s budget, using best practice approaches and available data to inform the allocation of resources to have the greatest impact on the community.
  • Leads the university’s approach to health promotion and prevention, deeply involving campus partners and content experts in both strategy and implementation around a variety of health and wellbeing-oriented content areas.
  • Supervises the Office of Wellbeing professional staff, aligning their work and services with campus health promotion and prevention areas of priority.
  • Develops and maintains excellent partnerships with the Health & Wellbeing Team (Student Health Service, University Counseling Center, and the Safe Office), as well as other partners throughout the University in order to facilitate effective health promotion and prevention.
  • Partners across campus constituents to continue to foster wellbeing initiatives.
  • Utilizes strategic planning, implementation, and assessment to understand, develop an agenda, and address the health promotion-related needs of the community.
  • Oversees the office’s health promotion and prevention areas of priority including: substance use and misuse, mental and emotional health, bystander intervention, physical health including nutrition, sexual health, interpersonal violence, resilience, and sleep awareness.
  • Creates and utilizes partnership strategies with students, faculty, and staff to expand the reach of wellbeing practices across the Wake Forest University community.
  • Oversees the coordination of the campus’s comprehensive alcohol and other drug prevention programming, brief intervention screening services, and collegiate recovery program.
  • Communicates effectively with constituents, regularly providing impactful data and narratives about wellbeing as well as the work of the office.
  • Understands and articulates a shared vision for wellbeing within the Wake Forest University community.
  • Develops and advocates for policies and a built environment that addresses campus health and wellbeing, with particular attention to the needs and experiences of traditionally underserved and/or marginalized campus populations.
  • Oversees the coordination of Wellbeing Coaching services offered to students, faculty, and staff, providing both drop-in and ongoing coaching and referral.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Five or more years of experience in public health or closely related work, including at least three or more years of progressive management/administrative experience. Must possess experience in developing, managing, and assessing programming initiatives and support services related to wellbeing.
  • Master's degree in public health, health promotion, health policy, social work/psychology/counseling or a closely related field.
  • Experience and proven leader, thinker, strategist, and manager with demonstrated ability and effectiveness in creating, developing, implementing, and assessing effective and contextually appropriate wellbeing programs and interventions.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Doctorate preferred.
  • College health and wellbeing experience or corporate wellbeing initiatives.
  • College Health and Wellness Professional (CHWP) certificate.
  • Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH) designation, or eligible to be certified.
Accountabilities
  • Develops, evaluates, and oversees budget in partnership with the Director, Finance and Operations and Assistant Vice President of Health and Wellbeing.
  • Supervises: Interpersonal Violence Prevention Coordinator, Assistant Director of Wellbeing - Substance Use, Assistant Director of Wellbeing - Health Promotion, Assistant Director of Wellbeing, Mental Health, Program Manager, Office Manager, Program Coordinator, Wellbeing Coaches.
  • Works under minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Occasionally moves boxes weighing up to 20 pounds.
Environmental Conditions
  • Occasional outside events.
  • Indoor work location.
