Job Description

Job Summary

The ideal candidate must be self-directed achiever with strong supply chain experience and the ability to influence and effectively communicate vertically and horizontally across the organization and with internal partners. The Transportation Operation leader is dedicated to achieving great results standing at the line of action, taking charge of delivery operations from dock to customer, and making sure that carrier teams on the front lines are sharp and committed to not only process execution, but to world class customer service. You will oversee a team to fine tune processes, support the P&L expectations and decisions in transportation. The transportation operations leader is responsible for daily planning, organizing, controlling, administering, and managing the over-all operations of outgoing delivery and return orders. This is a hybrid role working in one of our facilities and remotely.

  • Drive TMS integration and inclusion of EDI messaging with carrier partners
  • Ability to intake, measure, and escalate transportation defects and countermeasures to Logistics and Sales leadership
  • Lead Patterson continuous improvements to optimize last mile spend ie network optimization, order and route consolidations
  • Collaborate and influence business leaders and operators to drive efficiencies and execute transportation objectives
  • Balance other costs of operations to minimize overall cost at the highest level of service possible while reducing risk
  • Ensures direct reports are aware of and follow established business policies, practices, and Company’s Code of Conduct to create a supportive and productive working environment.
  • Provide analysis, forecast, audit, and reporting support to identify, recommend and implement cost savings alternatives and process improvements for existing operations
  • Provide leadership and execution of the enterprise transportation objectives for Patterson Supply Chain Logistics
  • Foster collaborative, executive level, P&L owners and field operator relationships to drive mutually beneficial initiatives and results focused on safety, service and savings
  • Collaborate and lead inbound and outbound delivery, carrier performance management, change management, transportation management system integration, team development, and sales team engagement.
  • Lead the operations team to achieve 95% or better On-Time Pickup and Delivery by driving defect resolution with carrier partners through root cause analysis and performance management discussions
  • Manages direct reports including the hiring, development, performance management, goal setting, and other managerial duties.
  • Manage operational transition processes, including implementation planning of new warehouse shipping locations and implementation of SAP system processes at network locations
  • Additional duties as assigned
  • Responsible for tender, induction, and delivery of package across all Patterson BUs
  • Collect and analyze data, generate conclusions and action plan, monitor progress
  • Lead cross functional teams to map processes, analyze ideal practices and implement process modifications.
  • Responsible for daily planning, organizing, controlling, administering, and managing the over-all operations of outgoing delivery and return orders
  • Support the P&L expectations and decisions, and ensure that customers expectations are met
  • Proactively engage with supply chain and business leaders, employees, suppliers, and carriers to achieve world class quality, service, and cost
  • Optimize and manage outbound and dedicated operational strategy and execution
  • Collaborate with transportation procurement to manage, select and scorecard suppliers
  • Required Qualifications
  • Process improvement and project management training
  • Previous experience utilizing Transportation Management Systems
  • Ability to effectively partner cross-functionally, across all levels of the organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office - (Word, Excel, Power Point Etc.)
  • Previous experience utilizing ERP Systems (SAP, Oracle and/or JD Edwards)
  • 3 years’ experience in transportation management
  • 8 years’ experience in logistics, transportation, or related operations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven soft skills – organization, attention to detail, analytics, problem solving, collaboration
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related fields or 8 years equivalent experience
  • Ability to hold internal partners accountable to load delivery to service level agreements
  • Project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex relationship matrices and influencing across all level of the organization
  • Strong team leadership acumen with the ability to give constructive feedback and coaching
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in a Distribution/ Logistics environment

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to communicate with others in person, over the phone, and in writing.
  • Operating a computer or other office devices for the majority of the workday
  • Must be able to read and interpret various electronic and written documents.
  • Must be able to understand and effectively exchange accurate information with others such as coworkers, customers and vendors
  • May occasionally need to move packages up to 10 pounds such as office supplies or equipment
  • Travel and On-call
