Job Description

The Director of Student Activities is responsible for creating and supporting a high-quality student life experience for all students at Farmingdale State College. The incumbent is responsible for creating, implementing and facilitating opportunities for co-curricular learning and student development. The Director of Student Activities will develop initiatives that improve student engagement and improve student retention. The Director of Student Activities will lead an office that directly supports Clubs/Organizations, programming, fraternity/sorority life, and Student Government Association. The Director of Student Activities functions as a student advocate by responding directly to needs and issues affecting student well-being. The Director of Student Activities reports to the Executive Dean of Student Engagement.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist student organization in developing plans that foster continuous improvement and growth.
  • Manages all aspects of the Greek Life program including budget, special events, eligibility, and recruitment.
  • Produces reports and conducts program evaluations for campus-wide programming.
  • Supervision of professional support staff and student employees.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of all operations, programs, and financial affairs for the Student Government Association.
  • Advises student leaders and student organizations on programs and events.
  • Represent the Office of Student Activities at Admissions events & serve on committees as needed.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of student organizations as they fulfill their mission and purpose.
  • Provides on-site supervision of events and activities at night and on weekends.
  • Arranges, plans, markets, and evaluates student or departmental programs.
  • Advises, counsels, guides, and coordinates student organizations in planning, advertising, resource management, and faculty/staff sponsor information.

This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but instead receive renewable term appointments.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 5 years working in a higher education environment.
  • Proven success in managing 6-figure budgets.
  • Experience with managing the Mandatory Student Activities Fee.
  • Experience in advising student government.
  • Experience with student advising, and student development/leadership theories and models.
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, or related field
  • Five years of managing a fraternity/sorority system.
  • Proven leadership in engaging and mobilizing diverse constituencies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Eight years of experience in higher education.
  • Five years of student advising and supervising experience.
  • Membership in the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors.
  • Five years experience planning large-scale events.

This is a full-time UUP position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Wednesday, May 31, 2023 and ending Tuesday, June 13, 2023, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
  • THIS IS AN INTERNAL SEARCH OPEN TO FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE EMPLOYEES ONLY.
  • Salary: $95,000 + $3,026 in downstate location pay = $98,026 Total Annual Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with experience.
