ReGeneration, founded in 2016, is a nationally ranked charter program with seven charter
schools located in Illinois and Ohio. ReGeneration serves over 1800 students of whom 99% are
minority and 86% are low income. U.S. News and World Report’s 2021 School Ranking listed all
ReGeneration elementary schools among the top ten charter elementary schools in Illinois.
ReGeneration expanded to Ohio in 2019, opening its Bond Hill campus in 2019. ReGeneration
is expanding in Cincinnati, Ohio adding two more campuses effective July 2023.
Position:
We are seeking an ambitious Director of Specialized Services to join our ReGeneration Schools team. Reporting directly to the Chief Academic Officer, this individual will work with all elementary and middle schools to maintain a strong, viable special education program and curriculum for K-8th grade students. The Director of Specialized Services will have superior content knowledge and coaching experience that builds teacher capacity to effectively support the needs of their students.
Responsibilities:
- Anticipate and communicate changes and needs as it relates to special education. For example, ensure that the quarterly IEP report cards are completed on time without prompting.
- Create action plans and next steps in response to the data.
- Research, plan, coordinate and execute professional development for all staff as it relates to special education and services. Manage staff training in CPI.
- Interpret and disseminate information regarding state and federal rules and regulations.
- Act as a liaison with CPS and CICS district staff.
- Support schools in understanding and implementing crisis response strategies as it relates to SASS, DCFS, and physical restraints.
- In conjunction with the Principals, co-manage Diverse Learning Teachers, Case Managers, paraprofessionals and full-time, school-based related service providers(Social Workers, SLPs, OT, PT and nurses).
- Participate in interviews for Diverse Learning staff members. Own the interviews for Related Service Providers and include principals as needed.
- Coordinate student Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504 processes, and interact with school administrators, teachers, and select support personnel to determine current and future educational services for Diverse Learning students.
- Directly manage the school psychologist.
- Partner with staffing agencies around staffing needs and contracts
- Ensure program compliance.
- Support school staff with ELL programming. Participate in yearly TA visits with CPS. Monitor and ensure ELL compliance.
- Monitor and provide necessary special education compliance data and information to Superintendents, Principals, Diverse Learning Teachers, and Related Service Providers.
- Attend CPS monthly case manager meetings to support the implementation of new information.
- Perform other duties related to special education programs.
- Assist Principals as directed in all areas related to the special education programs (e.g. program coordination, compliance review, curriculum, etc.).
- In collaboration with the Principals, observe Diverse Learning Teachers and classrooms and provide feedback for improving practices.
- Yearly, determine the allotment of Diverse Learning teachers and Related Service Providers and communicate determination with leadership for staffing purposes.
Qualifications:
- Believes low-income students can become college and career ready.
- Provides evidence of leadership and teamwork.
- Willingness to work long hours to successfully get the job done.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Organized and ability to multitask.
- Valid LBS1 Special Education Teacher Certification required.
- At least 5 years of special education teaching experience and 2 years case management in an urban setting required.
- Demonstrates initiative and creativity.
- Demonstrates mastery of academic subjects and behavioral interventions.
- High expectations on personal and team performance.
- Communicates clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Flexible to changing priorities and conditions.
