Job Description

Overview

The Director of Risk, Insurance and Physical Security is responsible for (1) overseeing the leadership, innovation, governance, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the company's operational and strategic risk and ensure coordinate compliance with all applicable U.S. laws; (2) directs and oversees insurance renewals and claims to meet operational, financial, and service requirements and establishes policies and procedures for the effective administration of insurance claims for personal, property, or casualty loss; and (3) directs manages the safety and physical security of key facilities to ensure compliance with physical security programs.

Responsibilities

Directs and manages the enterprise risk management program and ensures alignment with organizational objectives.

Develops, manages, and administers risk management strategies, tools, practices, programs & policies, including internal audits of policy and compliance as deemed necessary. Coordinates all activities relating to risk management to isolate and/or prevent liabilities.

Oversees or monitors all operational risk management activities of the organization. Monitors and analyzes risks within the company's business units and reports on these risks to the Executive Management Team and Board.

Creates, assesses/evaluates and modifies policies to comply with safety legislation and industry practices. Ensures the organization's risk management policies and strategies follow applicable regulations, rating agency standards, and strategic imperatives of the organization.

Evaluates risk by comparing estimated risks with criteria established by the organization such as costs, legal requirements and environmental factors, and evaluates previous handling of risks. Establishes and quantifies the company’s “risk appetite”.

Coordinates and develops organizational wide programs for risk-free services. Creates and administers training for company leaders, as necessary, to build risk awareness within the company.

Acts as the liaison to auditors, attorneys, insurance companies, and other relevant individuals/representatives.

Investigates and troubleshoots any incidences that may result in an asset loss.

Promotes org-wide understanding about risks and risk management strategies.

Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the department and develops budgets, policies, and procedures to support the functional infrastructure.

Stays abreast of local, state, and federal rules and regulations as pertinent to the position.

Directs, oversees, and leads the company’s insurance renewal program and claims management programs including the establishment of policies and procedures for the administration of insurance renewals and claims.

Responsible for the strategic processing and payments of claims.

Provides expert guidance and consultation to staff on the most complex insurance claims

Manages inspection of each area baseyard and regulated facility assessing and ensuring compliance with all applicable company and government safety, health, and security regulations and procedures.

Inspects fire protection equipment and maintains files and documentation related to security operations.

Develops and implements safety and security programs

Maintains knowledge of applicable government compliance regulations

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Complies with all safety rules and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.

Complies with all applicable Hawaii Gas policies and procedures.

Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed. Works in a safe and responsible manner.

Performs all other related duties as instructed by direct manager.

Qualifications

Required Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of legal issues related to organizational liability and insurance trends.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Economics, Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Five or more (5+) years of managerial experience.
  • Five - or more (5+) years of directly related experience in risk management.

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Legal, Economics, Accounting, Finance or related field.

Working Conditions/Environment:
