Job Details


The Director of Procurement will work expressly within inventory, warehouse, planning and purchasing to ensure the consistency, cost-effectiveness, efficiency and adequacy of the procurement and inventory process. This person will be responsible for overseeing and facilitating the purchasing/inventory strategy, supervising teams of subordinate staff in purchasing, operations and ensuring all employees and processes meet the company’s standards and designations for work quality. Below is a description of the primary job responsibilities and key skills and attributes that are essential to the position.


Essential Functions


  • Planning policies and procedures for efficiently, honestly, economically, and productively purchasing goods for supply chain production and operation.
  • Mentor and supervise purchasing and warehouse/inventory team.
  • Establish guidelines for approving purchase orders, set purchasing policies, manage inventory and budget for materials.
  • Monitoring, reviewing, and analyzing bids and quotes with suppliers, including the negotiation of service agreements and contracts.
  • Overseeing sources for purchasing supplies
  • Document best practices in the purchasing process and seek to optimize where applicable.
  • Develop and implement new purchasing strategies to deliver ongoing cost reductions and process simplification.
  • Leading the implementation of procurement operations, standards, and turning data into actionable insights on the companies upcoming ERP platform.
  • Assist in settling invoices or contract disputes.
  • Adhere to and maximize purchasing budget.
  • Maintaining company budget and streamlining costs
  • Adhere to and enforce safety best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain and establish new relationships with vendors to ensure adequate resources for all projects and to continually improve pricing and quality of work.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the market, in addition to current prices and fair rates for goods
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain and implement construction proforma/budget large-scale and complex steel construction projects, HSS and CFS superstructures, built as volumetric-modular units.
  • Monitoring, reviewing, and analyzing bids and quotes with suppliers, including the negotiation of service agreements and contractors.


Qualifications & Requirements


  • Extensive field knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Exemplary multitasking and organizational skills
  • Adept at negotiating with vendors while cultivating long-term relationships.
  • Highly organized, focus on the details, and know how to get the right materials to arrive at the right time.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in setting up costing templates and budgets within a range of software types.
  • Advanced knowledge in corporate ERP as it relates to related field.
  • Extensive knowledge in procurement as it relates to large-scale steel construction projects or metal fabrication processes.
  • Sound common sense.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of five years in management.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to direct others according to company standards.
  • Strong proficiency in construction materials is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences.


Physical Requirements


  • Function in narrow aisles or passageways.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Subject to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
