Directs nursing service activities on a 24 hour basis in the ED unit. Assigns duties to professional and auxiliary nursing personnel in accordance with department policies and procedures and physicians instructions, and supervises and evaluates their performance. Supervises the preparation and maintenance of patient clinical records, and compiles reports on staff performance and medical services rendered.
Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of management experience in an ED preferred
  • Five (5) years experience as a Registered Nurse requied
  • BSN and ENA certification required
  • Currently licensed and registered in the State of New Jersey to practice as a professional nurse required
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Masters Degree preferred

Responsibilities:
A day in the life of a Director of Nursing at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
  • Plans and conducts staff conferences for the purpose of discussing nursing care, policies and procedure, short and long-term goals of the unit, and quality assurance issues.
  • Facilitates the implementation of ENA standards to enhance the competence and accountability of the Emergency Department nurses
  • Gives instruction and guidance as needed to promote the improvement of all aspects of patient care; i.e. assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Investigates complaints of personnel and patients, and follows through with appropriate action.
  • Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for department and Medical Center.
  • Facilitates compliance with best practices and emergency department standards.
  • Periodically makes rounds during tour of duty to assess patients’ condition, ascertain quality of patient care, and evaluate the environment for optimal comfort, welfare and safety of patients.
  • Reviews educational needs of staff with Director of Education and Vice President. Encourages staff participation in education programs. Confers with Director of Education regarding orientation of new personnel.
  • Makes nursing assessments of total patient needs.
  • Provides leadership, planning, organization, staffing, coordination and evaluation for emergency department activities.
  • Facilitates that the quality, safety and appropriateness of emergency patient care services are monitored and evaluated and that appropriate actions based on findings are taken.
  • Confers with Day/Evening/Night Supervisor for the purpose of discussing nursing care, future planning, policies and administration of the ED.
  • Facilitates quality improvement activities to monitor and improve standards of emergency nursing.
  • Reviews and is responsible for the execution of doctor’s orders. Communicates and interprets the orders and care anticipated to nursing staff.
  • Evaluates, in collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator and Supervisors, the effectiveness of emergency nursing care.
  • Monitors advances in emergency care and initiates change as needed to ensure that Emergency Services and capabilities are dynamic and progressive.
