The A.C. Coy Company has an immediate opening for a Director of Metallurgy. Ideal candidates must have 10+ Years related experience with a bachelors degree in engineering or related field. Masters degree is a plus, Six sigma training / certifications preferred.


Responsibilities


  • Develops and directs new engineering processes, technologies, and manufacturing requirements to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials
  • Ensure accurate reporting of production activities
  • Develop continuous improvement targets for the function and drive and measure achievement of these targets
  • Develop and manage metallurgical operations and work practices that maximize operational efficiencies
  • Provides technical guidance and serves as a resource for engineers. Ensures that components, materials, and tools are used to capacity
  • Organize the work of the team to ensure all functions and services are provided efficiently, while providing rewarding work, with clear accountabilities and authorities
  • Manage metallurgical and chemical engineering activities working with the operations team and external consultants across five heavy manufacturing facilities
  • Develops and directs long-term and short-term strategies to allow the company to remain competitive, achieve targets, and reduce costs
  • Maintains and directs a culture of “safety first” across the entire employee population
  • Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Monitor and analyze key metallurgical performance indicators of process operations and recommend corrective actions to the operations team
  • Work closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Die Shop and Quality teams
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safe work procedures and promote safety, health and environmental awareness.
  • Conduct and analyze plant trials to support new products and problem solving
  • Interpret failure data and tests to identify material issues
  • Oversee the metallurgical research and development program ensuring new and innovative ideas are capitalized for maximum benefit
  • Monitor the Metallurgical systems and business processes, identify and prioritize improvement opportunities and formulate alternatives and improvements to systems and methods


Qualifications


Education


  • Bachelor's degree in metallurgical or chemical engineering


Experience


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven team player skills with ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships
  • Strong mentoring, training, and coaching to colleagues
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Minimum ten years of project management and financial budgeting
  • Ability to effectively delegate while maintaining forward motion on key deliverables
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe working practices
  • Strong computer skills (i.e., MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum ten years of metallurgical experience; mineral processing, leaching, solvent extraction, and rare earth experience preferred or essential
  • Minimum ten years of engineering process design and feasibility studies
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
