Position Purpose


The Director of Engineering leads the process and engineering team within the Northeast region Municipal Water Contract Operations business. The role oversees the implementation and support for the region’s engineering activities, process control, optimization, troubleshooting and other technical support for wastewater and drinking water systems. The role works with a variety of people across the organization to ensure that operations receive adequate support to meet environmental compliance efficiently and in a sustainable manner and performs business development activities to obtain new contracts.


The Director collaborates frequently with other regional and corporate technical support teams to share strategy, best practices and resources. Candidate may live anywhere in the NY-CT-RI-MA-NJ area and will support the entire regional area. One meeting a month in person in Paramus, NJ.


Primary Duties/Responsibilities


  • Develops and oversees implementation of internal programs, KPIs, dashboards and reports for the continuous monitoring of operations.
  • Provides support to regional business development and account management for the development of new operation activities in the region. Participate in the risk analysis/technical due diligence of new projects and the development of new offerings and support operations for their implementation.
  • Develops and supports operational efficiency plans with focus on chemicals and energy use optimization; coordinate with the financial team to adequately record costs savings.
  • Coordinates and participates in audits and review of operations performance.
  • Provides and leverages technical expertise to improve environmental compliance and technical and economic performance of the contracts and facilities in the region.
  • Reviews engineering work performed by outside engineering firms.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with pertinent water industry professionals and environmental regulators (AWWA, WRF, EPA, State, etc.).
  • Supports operations for process troubleshooting to avoid non-conformance or rapidly return to regulatory and contractual compliance.
  • Provide oversight of and support for engineering activities related to the operation of the drinking water, wastewater and biosolids systems across the Northeast.
  • Manages and supervises the regional Process and Engineering team.
  • Conducts and supports modelization effort using applications such as Biowin, WaterGEMS.
  • Provides support with Hach WIMS database set up and use by operation teams.
  • Develop processes to ensure coordination to share best practices and disseminate appropriate information.


Qualifications


Education/Experience/Background:


  • Knowledge in stormwater, biosolids, air emissions and industrial pretreatment is desired.
  • 8-10 years experience in a related field.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of wastewater and drinking water treatment processes.
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering with coursework in Water Treatment.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


  • Proficiency in utilizing computers, databases and software including but not limited to Google, Hach WIMS or other water quality data management systems.
  • Analytical thinking in regards to ensuring all regulatory requirements are met especially in times of emergency.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to use sound judgment to make decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) across all levels of the company.
  • Proficiency in using water process and systems modelization tools such as Biowin, WaterGEMS or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to network with water industry professionals and environmental regulators.
  • Ability to design and interpret bench/pilot testing, water quality sampling protocols, and plant performance testing.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching skills.


Required Certification/Licenses/Training


  • Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • P.E. an/or Water Operator Licenses are a plus.


Physical Requirements/Work Environment


  • Main work environment is equivalent to office environment.
  • Job will require travel to sites and walk through sites and corresponding mobility and ability to travel up to 40% of the time in the Northeast region.
  • This job involves working primarily indoors with occasional outdoor site inspections under a variety of weather conditions to participate in system field reconnaissance, inspections, assessments and equipment installation.
