Join Our Team and Shape the Future of Technology-led Economic Development!

Are you a visionary leader with a passion for driving cross-sector collaboration to advance deep technology and innovation-led economic growth? Are you experienced in developing and executing public-private partnerships and securing large-scale government funding opportunities? Do you thrive in a dynamic startup environment and have a proven track record of successfully managing multi-million dollar grants? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

About Us:

At NewLab, we believe that solving the most pressing challenges of our time requires unprecedented collaboration. Our unique ability to convene across industry and sector lines allows us to mobilize people and capital around infrastructure projects that accelerate critical deep technologies to market. With the generational infusion of capital by governments worldwide, we have a unique opportunity to leverage our public-private partnerships to rapidly scale our business and impact on a global scale.

Role & Responsibilities:

As the Director of Economic Development Strategy, you will play a pivotal role in driving NewLab's growth and success. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Instigate New Opportunities: Identify and develop opportunities to leverage public-private partnerships or government funding opportunities to unlock new markets and lay the groundwork for geographic expansion.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Provide strategic guidance and leadership to cross-functional teams involved in RFP and grant-related activities.
  • Public Sector Advisory: Support the delivery of strategic advisory services for NewLab’s public sector partners.
  • Strategic Positioning: Lead concept and narrative development for public sector partnership and funding opportunities.
  • Strategic Engagement & Government Relations: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key public sector stakeholders.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute public-private partnerships and government funding opportunities aligned with the organization's strategy and goals.
  • RFP Management: Lead the end-to-end management of large-scale RFPs, including coordinating cross-functional teams, aligning strategic partners, and managing NewLab’s external grant writing firm to ensure timely and high-quality submission of proposals.
  • Thought Leadership: Elevate awareness for NewLab’s unique approach to cross-sector collaboration and technology-led economic development by attending conferences, key events, and working with our internal marketing team to develop thought-leadership content.

Who You Are:

The ideal candidate for the Director of Economic Development Strategy role should possess the following qualities:

  • Inherent Qualities: You think like a consultant but have a strong bias toward action. You are inherently curious, have an appetite for building, and thrive in an unstructured and fast-moving environment.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: You have an entrepreneurial and optimistic mindset, always willing to roll up your sleeves, take the lead, and try new approaches.
  • Experience & Expertise: You have a proven track record of success in economic development advisory, strategy consulting, or public affairs. You've managed large RFPs and secured and managed multi-million dollar grants from government agencies.
  • Passion for Technology-led Economic Development: You have a strong passion for leveraging technology to drive innovation-led economic development and improved societal outcomes.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Experience: You have a strong background in strategy, project management, and partnership development, along with experience in successfully brokering and managing public sector partnerships through grants, RFPs, or service delivery.
