Job Description
Position Summary


The Director of Development for the Office of External Affairs is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of fundraising and development for YWCA USA. Reporting to the Chief External Affairs Officer (CEAO), this position collaborates closely with the senior leadership team and the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies to secure philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies. The Director of Development is also responsible for building and maintaining relationships with major donors and key stakeholders, and for ensuring that YWCA USA's development activities align with the organization's strategic goals.


Accountabilities


Development Planning and Execution


  • Collaborate with the Vice President for Development to develop and implement a comprehensive short- and long-term development plan, including goals, strategies, and tactics to ensure sustainable growth and diversification of funding sources
  • Establish a balanced funding mix of donor sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization
  • Work with program staff and volunteers to align fundraising efforts with the mission and goals of the organization and ensure that all donor relationships are effectively managed and nurtured


Fundraising Management


  • Provide leadership to align all fundraising activities, including small visioning gatherings and fundraising events, with the organization's values, vision, and goals
  • Oversee fundraising infrastructure, including optimal use of software/tools, to support initiatives, donor recognition, and events
  • Ensure compliance with regulations/laws, maintain accountability standards, and ensure data integrity for all fundraising activities
  • Identify major donor prospects, develop cultivation strategies, and manage a portfolio of major gift donors, including those at small visioning gatherings/fundraising events
  • Establish administrative systems/procedures to track, report, and recognize donor contributions accurately and timely, including those related to small visioning gatherings/fundraising events
  • Collaborate with other functional areas to develop revenue-generating strategies and promote a culture of philanthropy, including overseeing small visioning gatherings/fundraising events


Grants Management


  • Assist the Vice President for Development in managing and growing the organization's grant programs, including identifying, researching, and cultivating potential funders, and overseeing grant-writing efforts


Communication and Reporting


  • Provide regular updates to the Vice President for Development, CEO, and Board of Directors on fundraising progress and performance
  • Work with the communications team to develop and distribute targeted and timely public information to highlight the importance of the organization's mission and vision, including brochures, event materials, newsletters, annual reports, reports to investors and potential donors, and other development support collateral


Professional Development and Leadership


  • Stay informed of trends and best practices in philanthropy and fund development, as well as general fields of management and the nonprofit sector
  • Provide professional development, leadership, expertise, and training to development staff and other functional areas of the organization as required


Requirements


You will be successful in this role if you possess the following experience and core competencies
  • Experience with fundraising software and tools, such as Raiser's Edge, and online fundraising platforms
  • Experience in managing a development team, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff
  • Experience in developing and implementing successful fundraising plans, including major gift and planned giving programs, grants, and special events
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in fundraising and development, with a track record of success in raising significant funds from a diverse range of sources
  • Experiences
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of success in managing teams and achieving fundraising goals
  • Intelligent, persuasive, hardworking, and charismatic advocate and ambassador for the organization

  • YWCA USA is a remote first office environment; you will collaborate with colleagues who are based across the United States. You should be prepared to either work from home or a location of your choosing
  • Occasional travel for meetings, events, or site visits may be required (dependent on the nature of the position and organization)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via phone
  • The role may require long periods of sitting and using a computer and may also involve some light physical tasks, such as printing, filing, etc
  • Ability to attend events
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday during core hours and occasionally on nights and weekends as needed

Compensation and Benefits


In order to counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, salaries are non-negotiable for new and current employees. YWCA USA salary bands for a given staff level are benchmarked to the 75th percentile for our sector, and all new employees are paid at the entry point of those bands. Employees then have the opportunity to progress through current salary bands through annual cost of living increases and performance-based pay increases, and into new salary bands through promotions.
