Wilmington College, an NCAA Division III four-year private institution in Wilmington, Ohio, invites applications for the position of Director of Athletic Communications. This is a full-time (12 month) position with excellent benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience. The Director of Athletic Communications (DAC) is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive athletics communications program that supports college branding and marketing initiatives. The DAC's work focuses primarily on publicizing and promoting the athletics program and student-athletes at Wilmington College, helping create an environment that is conducive to effective recruitment and fundraising. The DAC's communications program will include maintaining and enhancing the athletics website, writing feature stories and news releases, responding to and coordinating with media outlets, directing the creation of pre-season publicity and programs, contributing to other college publications, providing photography, directing the reporting of statistical information, overseeing sports social media channels and game streaming.In carrying out these responsibilities, the DAC operates in a team environment and will have regular interaction with the Senior Director of Athletics, Associate Director of Athletics/SWA, coaches, students, faculty, staff, media representatives, parents and visitors. Such interactions will have a significant effect on the perceived image of the college.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Director of Athletics, the successful candidate will direct and manage the athletics communication program. This position is responsible for the development, leadership, and administration of all aspects of a successful NCAA Division III athletics communication program. Duties include, but are not limited to; Maintaining and enhancing the athletics website, writing feature stories and game releases, overseeing sports social media channels and game streaming, manage the streaming of college athletic contests, supervises a team of students, staff and volunteers, contribute to other college publications, provide/arrange photography for athletic contests and events, direct the reporting of statistical information, game management responsibilities including the assigning of scorekeepers, clock keepers and announcers for home contests, manages the press box and scorer's table for all home games, creating pre-season publicity, assisting with athletic department events, building media relations, manages photography for website, other duties as assigned. The DAC contributes to the overall success of the college through collaboration with Wilmington College's Marketing Department
Required Qualifications
A bachelor's degree is required, preferably with a concentration in communications, journalism, or a related field. Proven successful DAC or Sports Information experience. Ability to write clearly and effectively, following Associated Press style and other dictated styles. Ability to write creatively and persuasively. Ability to recognize correct grammar, punctuation, and style. Ability to manage several tasks at once. Ability to relate well to other people in person, over the telephone and through written correspondence. Excellent computer skills and ability to utilize web content and social media software. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and statistical programs. Well-rounded knowledge of various sports and college athletics in general. Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours. Ability to foster positive internal and external public relations.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree is preferred, but not required. Experience with athletic communications at the collegiate level; knowledge and demonstrated experience with NCAA and Ohio Athletic Conference rules and regulations.
