Position Highlights
The Director of the Online, Distance and Continuing Education (ODCE) Lab will develop and lead a research and practice lab that will conduct and share research on online and hybrid pedagogy, andragogy, and heutagogy design for credit and noncredit programs. This position will oversee online and hybrid faculty training and development to maintain consistent educational quality across learning platforms; coordinate and lead online and hybrid internships for the next generation of digital learning leaders; and, research and foster emerging learning technologies including AI/AR/VR/XR that help position the university as a thought leader in the metaversity framework for higher education.

Duties & Responsibilities
Online and Hybrid Faculty Academy
  • Effectively supervise and mentor learners studying online and hybrid programs at the university
  • Develop and operationalize best practices for diverse populations of learners to ensure solutions are student centered and support personalization
  • Create and administer learner-testing teams to evaluate the effectiveness of learning through student analysis and feedback mechanisms
  • Analyze faculty needs across online, hybrid, synchronous, asynchronous and bichronous faculty models to support the teaching and facilitation of the learning solution
  • Develop an online and hybrid faculty academy to share best practices to engage learners and provide ongoing faculty support

Emerging Learning Technologies
  • Design, develop and operationalize develop learning solutions drawing from research-based efforts in cognitive science and educational technology
  • Research and prototype solutions for emerging learning models related to credit and noncredit, stackable credentials, and workforce solutions
  • Develop technical specifications and solutions for leveraging appropriate technologies to support teaching and learning
  • Create and implement valid assessment methods across all aspects of the learning solution

Administrative
  • Support efforts to operationalize recommended learning solutions with the goal of bringing solutions to scale in support of the university’s mission to increase affordability and access to quality education
  • Engage in service activities to support ODCE and university
  • Document all efforts and outcomes from the ODCE Lab
  • Create and manage an ODCE Lab budget based on divisional needs

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Extensive knowledge with the following:
  • Online and hybrid learning models
  • Course authoring/design tools (e.g., Articulate, Captivate, etc.)
  • Ability to thrive in collaborative, diverse, team-based environments
  • LMS systems and courseware platforms
  • High presentation skills with senior-level stakeholders


Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7 years of related work experience, including 3 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Experience with theories, concepts, principles, and practices in a multi-faceted professional discipline and team leadership.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in educational technology, educational psychology, instructional design, or similar field of study strongly preferred.
  • At least six years of experience in higher education or educational industry as an educational technology developer, instructional designer, instructional technologist, etc.
  • Master’s degree in educational technology, educational psychology, instructional design or similar field of study preferred.
