Position Description:

This position has the responsibility to provide leadership for Maintenance, Integrated Facility Management (iFM) and Reliability Engineering at Clinton Laboratories. This includes primary and secondary loop Reliability Engineers, overall responsibility for the Maintenance shops and the iFM contractor. Additionally, the Director partners to influence and implement improvements across functional disciplines to ensure that the site achieves all business plan objectives and remains compliant with all regulatory requirements.

Functions, Duties, Tasks:

1. HSE

The Director is responsible for:

  • Engaging in proactively reducing risks.
  • Improving safety culture, awareness, and accountability within the maintenance and reliability staff.
  • Ensuring that employees are taking actions to avoid personal injury to themselves and others.
  • Driving safe behaviors and timely reporting of incidents and near misses.

2. Developing People

The Director is responsible for:

  • Documenting all aspects of performance for the employees in the department including interim reviews, final reviews, compensations decisions, disciplinary actions, training, compliance, etc.
  • Working with Human Resources to resolve personnel issues.
  • Providing supervision and coaching, professional mentoring and career counselling.
  • Ensuring that everyone in the department has a performance management plan and a development plan that aligns with individual objectives, department/functional goals and plant site initiatives. This includes development of craft persons to improve skill sets and learn to maintain new equipment at the site.
  • Preparing succession management plans for key positions identified in the department.

3. Manage the Business

The Director is responsible for:

  • Ensuring business processes are in place to achieve the day-to-day team responsibilities and performance goals.
  • Managing the departmental budget and business plan including the management of headcount, overtime, and expenses.
  • Managing departmental activities and aligning resources to meet short-term and long-term business needs.

4. Improve the Business

The Director will:

  • Transform maintenance and reliability through utilization of lean manufacturing, first principles, root cause analysis, mentoring, and employee engagement.
  • Interact regularly with reliability, maintenance and iFM resources, to identify and replicate best practices and to align activities with corporate initiatives, standards and policies.
  • Improve planning and scheduling of work orders with the goal of reducing overdue PM's and improving utilization of craft labor.
  • Improve the maintenance practices including the use of "return to service", accuracy of daily and closing notes on work orders, and the correct changing and tracking of spare parts.
  • Meet key objectives aimed at improving reliability, maintenance and iFM performance.

Minimum Qualification (education, experience and/or training, required certifications):

Basic Requirements:

  • 5 years' proven experience in leadership.
  • B.S. in Engineering or relevant field or 10-years relevant mechanical experience in lieu of degree.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence individuals and teams.
  • 5 years' experience in manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of Elanco Quality and Engineering Standards.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing Health, Safety and Environmental Standards.

Additional Preferences:

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with iFM

Other Information:

Monday thru Friday, 8 hours/day. Some travel to other Elanco sites may be required.
