About The Role


In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Director, Information Technology who will develop and lead the strategy, roadmap and implementation plan for an enhanced IT infrastructure to diligently scale in our current organizational growth phase. As a member of the People & Operations team, you will partner closely with our People, Finance, and Systems (Technology) teams to set up policies, procedures and systems that empower our staff to effectively manage their technology needs.


This role is on the People & Operations team and reports directly to the Chief Financial & Operating Officer. This role manages one Full-Time employee.


What You’ll Do


Infrastructure (40%)


  • Manage budgets, establish and maintain strategic vendor relationships, negotiate contracts and agreement with vendors and partners in new & existing office locations.
  • Oversee the selection, development, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and enhancement of the company’s technology infrastructure, including asset allocation/device management
  • Develop and implement IT strategies, policies, and procedures to support business objectives as we scale in size and open 3-5 new sites in the next 3 years


Software Management (40%)


  • Play an integral role in acquiring additional necessary software by contributing to documentation and translating complex infrastructure concepts into clear and actionable insights for organization leaders, and other business stakeholders
  • Guiding and collaborating with org-wide leaders, striving for maximum performance, availability, and security of all systems and applications. These include Google Workspace, Okta, Slack, Asana, and Salesforce, along with department- specific applications. Challenge teams to automate and keep operational effectiveness top of mind as we scale
  • Ensure that the company's data remains secure by keeping up-to-date on the latest cybersecurity threats and findings and implementing preventative measures


Staff Technology Experience (20%)


  • Other duties as assigned
  • Proactively drive improvement in IT service delivery by implementing effective incident management, capacity planning, and performance monitoring processes, leveraging data analytics and business intelligence to optimize operations
  • Lead one (1) FTE to manage support/help desk, staff training, provisioning, offboarding and necessary training


Requirements


Minimum Requirements


  • 5+ years of progressive experience in IT Infrastructure
  • 1+ years of management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a computer related field (computer science, information systems, computer engineering, cybersecurity, etc.) and/or equivalent certifications/experience

Work Demands


  • Physical requirements: Support the setup of new offices (furniture/desktops, etc.) and be able to lift 25-40 lbs.
  • Hybrid work schedule: four (4) days in office, one (1) day remote
  • Ability to work in-person in (Chicago (IL)
  • Travel: 4-5 times per year for several days at a time, and as needed as we scale our office footprint

  • Authorized to work in the U.S
  • Must be fully vaccinated and have received the Booster vaccination against COVID-19 and provide proof of such by the date of hire. Individuals may claim exemption from the vaccine requirement for medical or religious reasons. Exempted individuals will be subject to weekly testing if they engage in any in-person work activities.

Compensation and Benefits


The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your demonstrated fit for the role, will likely be between $91,300 - $114,100. Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking. You will have an opportunity to discuss salary in more detail after you begin the application process.


Braven also provides competitive, comprehensive benefits, recognition, and career development. While Braven reserves the right to change benefits at any time, current benefits include:


  • A one-month paid sabbatical after 4 years on staff
  • Unlimited vacation time in addition to org-wide holidays and week-long shutdowns in July and the end of the calendar year (this is a minimum of 19 days per year)
  • Match of your 401K contribution up to 5% of your base annual salary, starting your first full month
  • Coverage of 85% of health insurance premium for employee and dependents


Location


Due to the nature of the work, this role is required to be in office four (4) days per week. Therefore, we require teammates to live within commuting distance of our Chicago hub. This role will have one (1) flex day per week of their choosing to work remotely.
