Summary:

The Director of Housing & Residence Life is a new position at Trident Seafoods. This role supports our commitment to consistently create the very best experience for our people, every day, across all positions and geographies.

Trident serves a highly diverse population and houses approximately 2500+ employees in strategic remote locations, primarily in Alaska to support production.

The Director of Housing and Residence Life will be responsible for helping us transition from our current bunkhouse model into an intentional residence life. We have a vision to improve the quality of life for our Trident family. This person will direct and lead through support staff at each of our shoreplants and provide support to our larger live-aboard vessels.

Responsibilities include staff supervision, primary oversight for all administrative functions within the Residence Life and supporting departmental and divisional goals and initiatives through various collaborative efforts in coordination with the Employee Experience Team, Director of Food & Beverage and Production Leadership.

This hybrid position is a combination of remote and onsite at the Trident Support Center office in Seattle, WA. Our hybrid work environment currently involves the option of working remote on Monday and Friday and requires “anchor days” in person at the Support Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Aids and advises Residence Life staff in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Administers a comprehensive residence life program for a 2500 bed housing operation, overseeing significant financial resources.
  • Actively supports and complies with all Trident policies, regulations, vision, and goals
  • Participates in an on-call rotation with other members of the Housing and Residence Life Leadership team providing support for emergencies and critical incidents involving residential employees and residence hall facilities
  • Manages all staffing functions for the Residence Life team including selection, training, supervision, and evaluation for staff at each location. Provides ongoing feedback, guidance, development opportunities and performance reviews
  • Chairs the Housing and Residence Life Leadership team, supports the mission and strategic goals of Trident Seafoods and the Employee Experience team.
  • Provides direction and resources for situations including employees in crisis, wellness, general safety, and roommate conflicts

Schedules and conducts regular staff meetings with Residence Life staff to convey information

  • Serve as essential personnel and respond to emergencies and crisis situations that occur within the residence halls and/or on campus
  • Support and lead engagement-building initiatives that emerge from the data by sharing recommendations and collaborating with stakeholders to execute.
  • Oversee purchases and vendor contracts for fiscal accuracy and ongoing reconciliation processes within departmental budgets
  • Travel to locations in Alaska, L48 or globally, up to 35% as needed to support operations.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in residential housing environments, hospitality, or other related field, with a minimum of 7 years managing staff
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent additional experience
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, and management skills, including budget management, excellent judgment, flexibility, and customer service
  • Ability to be innovative and creative in shaping programs and services and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Experience with and knowledge of developing policies, systems and processes
  • Knowledge of student and leadership development theory, social justice, and diversity, and their application in a residential environment, including the ability to work with a wide variety of people while recognizing the needs of underrepresented groups.
  • Experience in crisis management
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching, influencing and cultivating relationships in a multicultural environment, including conflict management


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Psychology, or a related field
  • Prior Experience in higher education, Residence Life
  • Experience in the seafood industry preferred.
  • Multi-lingual

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write clear correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to supervisor and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily be in a busy office setting.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English, and use decision making skills. The employee is required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills. The employee will be required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Additional skills and qualifications include organization, time management, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to track multiple projects concurrently with effectiveness.


This is a Salaried – Exempt position with an annualized salary range of: $155,000 - $180,000

Employees (and their families) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance, HRA/HSA with employer contribution, EAP, wellness programs, and annual discretionary bonuses. Employees may enroll in Trident’s 401k plan with partial employer match and adoption assistance. Group rates for long- and short-term disability, and supplemental life & disability insurance. Employees will also receive 3.08 hours paid vacation and the greater of 2.16 hours of paid sick time per two-week pay period or 1.00 hour per 40 hours worked and ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year, along with paid parental leave.
