Job Description

Overview:

PerkinElmer is seeking a Director, Global Tax Planning and Transactions who will be responsible for supporting the design, implementation and maintenance of a new go forward tax structure aligned with the company’s continued business transformation and the evolving global tax environment. While directly supervising a three-person team and working with Asia Pacific and EMEA regional tax personnel, the individual will collaborate closely with treasury, finance and other business personnel across the Company worldwide. Additionally, the Director focus on driving simplification, streamlining internal processes, ensuring quality and timeliness of tax services and delivering improved cash performance.


Responsibilities:

  • Ensure quality of department work product and provide technical review of significant tax positions reflected in financial statements and tax filings
  • Monitor and influence global regulatory, legislative, and policy relevant to the company
  • Lead internal restructuring and legal entity rationalization initiatives
  • Building relationships with executives and business partners
  • Networking with peers
  • Manage global tax controversies and tax audit matters based on materiality thresholds
  • Lead tax support for all strategic transactions – mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures
  • Draft, review, and oversee internal and external advice, memoranda, opinions, transfer pricing strategy, governmental submissions and ruling requests
  • Managing and coordinating with outside advisors
  • Scheduling, training, and mentoring tax team members
  • Succession planning and talent development
  • Identify, prioritize and implement global (US federal, state and international) tax planning strategy and initiatives
  • Thought leadership regarding new global tax regimes
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and provide tax advice for business strategy, investment decisions and treasury initiatives across the enterprise; lead global tax and economic incentive negotiations
  • Attraction and retention of key personnel
  • Assemble and lead project teams
  • US international tax compliance support and oversight, including returns (Forms 1118, 5471, 8858, 8865, 8991, 8992, 8993, 965 and applicable statements and disclosures), research into applicable tax return positions, and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Critical Success Factors:

Technical Skills: Deep technical understanding of U.S. federal, state, and international tax with particular emphasis on publicly traded corporations, partnerships, financial markets and instruments, cross-border activity and transfer pricing and M&A


Communication Skills: Effectively communicates with and engages all levels of the organization verbally and in writing; translates technical decisions/strategies into business terms and implications; produces clear, understandable documentation geared for all audiences. This role includes frequent communications with individuals outside of the Tax department, including Treasury, Legal, Accounting and the Controllership, and business executives.
Management of Resources: Allocates time and resources efficiently, focusing on ever-shifting priorities; continually seeks way to improve individual and team efficiency. Demonstrates ability to be effective within a matrix environment. Self-starter with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and take ownership of projects, performing job requirements with minimal oversight and strong attention to detail.
Business & Organization Knowledge: Prioritizes understanding the PerkinElmer business and the impact of business decisions on tax and vice versa.
Change Management: Exhibits an assertive personality with a strong bias for action; results oriented; tackles tough problems with firm deadlines.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of leading teams which include both internal and external resources, training and developing personnel
  • 15+ years of experience in US federal, state and international tax planning strategy and initiatives at an national public accounting firm OR publicly traded company AND
  • Bachelors Degree AND

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or J.D preferred
