Position Overview:


As Director, Assistant Controller for this public company, you will work closely with the Controller to lead many aspects of accounting management, drive the formulation of internal controls and policies and lead preparation of financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements. You will be central in leading and building the accounting team. You will utilize your existing accounting skills and knowledge, learn new skills, and play a key role in guiding the growth of the accounting department.


Responsibilities:


  • Prepare schedules requested for statutory audits
  • Manage, monitor, and execute week cash transactions
  • Responsibility for the company's SOX environment including developing, maintaining and documentation of internal controls; initiate and drive process improvements
  • Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to participating in special projects, system improvements or ad hoc analyses/projects as assigned
  • Once commercial, assist with revenue recognition and product costing
  • Develop and execute deliverables and manage internal and external audit and other parties, leading to the timely completion of the company's quarterly reviews and annual audits
  • Maintain accounting and reporting policies
  • Prepare schedules requested by internal and external tax advisors for corporate income tax returns and tax provision
  • Oversee the monthly close process including account reviewing journal entries and reconciliations
  • Oversight of international entities, intercompany and consolidation
  • Prepare and submit US and foreign government filings
  • Assist with insurance renewal process
  • Assist with building of accounting team; supervise team
  • Ensure the completeness and accuracy of all monthly financial closes in accordance with US GAAP
  • Review monthly/quarterly financial statements and trend analyses to ensure that all results are proper and prepared in accordance with US GAAP


Requirements:


Education and Experience:


  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Fast learner with ability to deal with technical and business issues with equal skill and able to deal with many ambiguities inherent in an emerging pharmaceutical company without becoming rigid or mechanical
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.
  • Big 4 audit with biotech experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP accounting and financial principles.
  • CPA required (in active ok)
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills combined with experience working with outside consultants in a positive and collaborative fashion
  • Hands-on experience in managing general ledger related functions, including familiarity with accounting software such as SAPbyDesign or similar
  • SEC reporting, technical accounting experience, and deep subject matter expertise in SOX404(b) highly desired
  • Experience operating within a Sarbanes-Oxley control environment

Compensation Overview:


The anticipated annual salary range for this role at Director job level is $175,000 to $225,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include – but are not limited to – the final job level offered, the type and length of experience within the job and industry, relevant education, qualifications, skills, certifications, performance, and business or organizational needs.


The hired applicant will be eligible to receive an annual bonus and an equity grant in the form of stock options.

  • Prothena employees are also eligible to enroll in our Company's 401(k) plan and are always 100% vested in their account balances. The 401(k) plan provides for a quarterly, non-discretionary, 3% company-paid contribution on eligible earnings, as well as an additional, annual discretionary Company match of up to 2% of eligible earnings.
