Job Description

Phathom Pharmaceuticals is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel treatments for gastrointestinal (GI) diseases. We are developing vonoprazan, a first-in-class potassium-competitive acid blocker (PCAB) with a New Drug Application under review by the FDA for the treatment of Erosive GERD and a late-stage development program in Non-Erosive GERD. Vonoprazan-based regimens are approved in the U.S. as part of a co-packaged product in combination with antibiotics for the treatment of H. pylori infection in adults, marketed as VOQUEZNA® TRIPLE PAK® (vonoprazan, amoxicillin, clarithromycin) and VOQUEZNA DUAL PAK® (vonoprazan, amoxicillin).

As Phathom Pharmaceuticals continues to build its position as the leader in the treatment of acid-related disorders, we are seeking a Director, Advanced Analytics & Forecasting. The candidate we hire into this role will own Phathom’s demand forecasting process, profile opportunities/risks, and identify strategies for how to manage performance as part of our growing Commercial Insights & Analytics team. A high proficiency in syndicated and custom pharmaceutical data sources, analytic applications and methodologies, and decision science is required. This person should have an ability to apply best-in-class analytics along with a practical orientation on how to leverage these for decision-making and impact.



ACCOUNTABILITIES

This individual will partner and collaborate across a wide range of stakeholders including Marketing, Sales, Market Access, Customer Insights, Supply Chain and Finance on forecasting and commercial analytics initiatives. The role requires proficiency in data analytics (including pulling data from a commercial data warehouse) relevant to forecasting and advanced analytics.


Forecasting

  • Role will also be responsible for ensuring competitive market events are formally and proactively identified, tracked, and assessed on a timely basis. Keeps abreast of news that could impact forecast drivers e.g., industry and competitive intelligence
  • Proven ability to lead and influence stakeholders based on objective evidence (e.g., utilizing EPI data and analog identification and application)
  • Familiarity with Gross to Net concepts and ability to work closely with market access team to understand impacts and connection points with demand forecasting.
  • Track forecast accuracy (including QC) and drive continuous improvements in forecast models and processes
  • Leverage fact-based approaches and processes as inputs to forecasting, such as epidemiology, brand share estimation, market access dynamics, and competitive impacts.
  • Manage a transparent, well-documented, and assumption-driven demand forecast process


Advanced Analytics/Decision Science

  • Communicate frequently and effectively with senior leadership on complex topics using simple visuals that clearly explain report forecast outputs, key risks, and opportunities
  • Understand the legal and compliance environment and drive collaboration with the Legal and Compliance team where relevant
  • Provide analytics thought leadership and develop creative ad hoc models to address commercial questions and needs
  • Collaborate with Commercial/Sales operations and brand marketing to analyze critical metrics, key performance indicators and derive key insights from trends in product performance
  • Provide quantitative analytic and strategic support for commercial teams; namely, identifying key segment business drivers, persistency & compliance analysis, promotional sensitivity analysis, co-pay card redemption analysis, FIA claims analysis (abandonment, rejections and reversals at the HCP and plan level), field force effectiveness, and sampling strategy optimization, to name a few
  • Ensure accurate effective performance measurement and deliver regular assessments of portfolio performance to leadership, including clear articulation of the data and its meaning for the business


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Strong project management experience (planning, prioritization, objective setting, contingency planning, meeting management, and plan execution) and flexibility to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Recognized expertise and coach to others on connecting, integrating and synthesizing analysis and data into a meaningful ‘so what’ to drive concrete strategic recommendations and enable commercial decision making.
  • Proven experience communicating complex analyses in a simple and clear manner
  • Forecasting experience required, leading launch forecasting initiatives
  • Demonstrated high resilience and agility as well as a keen analytical mindset, curiosity, and ability to proactively anticipate points of confusion.
  • Hands on experience working with patient-level data as well as syndicated data offerings; specifically, IQVIA NSP, NPA, Xponent, FIA, LAAD (or similar offerings from Symphony Health) and epidemiology data sources.
  • Proficient in a variety of data management and analytical tools such as Excel, Powerpoint, Alteryx, SQL, Tableau or Power BI, AWS, Redshift, Python or R; required.
  • 10 or more years of experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company, with 7+ years in analytic or consulting roles
  • Deep understanding of biotech/pharma market trends, vendors, and best practices
  • Proven experience in the application and use of analytical principles, methodologies, and statistics (statistical significance testing/confidence intervals, sampling) and multivariate statistics (regression analysis, cluster analysis, conjoint) and probabilities.
  • Foundational experience in primary care market or acid-related disorders a plus
  • Identifies, prioritizes, and describes relevant caveats in data/model and how they relate to business question and broader strategic business priorities
  • Experience extracting data from commercial data warehouse and working with BI tools to communicate data insights in impactful and visual ways across multiple levels of the organization. Understanding of relation databases and ability to link multiple datasets with different attributes to reach a specific end point.
  • Extensive experience in the design and management of secondary data analytics. Advanced knowledge about study design and able to assess and direct vendor technical capabilities and manage risks in the analytic process
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, fluent in English
