Job Description

Performs Difficult Professional And Administrative Work Supervising The Development Services Division Of The Planning And Development Department. Work Is Performed Under The General Direction Of The Planning & Development Director.


Essential Tasks: Supervises The Development Services Division Of The Planning & Development Department; Oversees The Development Review Program, Including Land Development Review (I.E., Site Plan, Subdivision, Group Development, Etc.) And Board Action Case Review (I.E., Annexations, Rezonings, Text Amendments, Coas, Variances, Etc.); Coordinates And Evaluates The Work Of The Division Staff, Monitors Their Progress And Makes Changes As Needed; Responds To Problems Concerning Development Regulations And Resolves Conflicts; Formulates And Revises Standards, Practices And Procedures Governing The Efficient Operation Of The Development Review And Information Management Programs; Manages And Directs Planning Work Program Projects; Oversees And Drafts Amendments To The Development Ordinance; Oversees Coordination With The Technical Review Committee, Assists As Needed; Communicates With Developers, Architects, Engineers, City Staff And The Public Regarding The Development Review Process And Requirements; Coordinates Development Review Process With Other City Departments And Public Agencies; Manages And Participates In Report Preparation And The Development Of Department Recommendations For Various Development Applications; Provides Technical And Professional Support To The Planning & Zoning Commission, Board Of Adjustment, Historic Preservation Commission, And City Council, As Needed; Provides Information To The Public Pertaining To Development Regulations And Various Legal Requirements; Coordinates Division Work Activities With Other Department Divisions, City Departments And Public Agencies; Assists With The Recruiting, Screening And Selection Of Job Applicants As Vacancies Occur; Conducts Field Surveys And Participates In Data Collection And Analysis, Report Preparation And The Development Of Recommendations For Various Proposals, Projects And Studies; Prepares Special Projects And Reports As Directed; Participates In Regional Planning Efforts With Inter-Jurisdictional Committees And Other Agencies; Makes Presentations To Civic And Professional Groups And Performs Related Activities To Enhance Public Relations; Assists Director As Needed; And Ensures That All Work Is Performed In Accordance With OSHA And City Safety Standards And Policies.

Formal Education: Master's Degree In Planning, Geography, Public Administration Or Closely Related Field With Five (5) Years Of Relevant Planning Experience; OR Bachelor's Degree In Planning, Geography, Public Administration Or Closely Related Field With Seven (7) Years Of Relevant Planning Experience.
