Chatham County's advertised salaries are based on an 80-hour pay period. Most CCPD Officers work and are paid for a scheduled 84-hour pay period. Based on this schedule, the minimum salary for Police Officer is $53,575.20, rather than the advertised $51,024. Chatham County Police Department offers a $2,000 signing bonus for certified officers hired at the Police Officer rank. The bonus requires a one (1) year service commitment with a signed agreement to retain the total bonus amount.
Out-of-State Certified Officers may complete Equivalency of Training (EOT) via Georgia P.O.S.T. More information is available on the P.O.S.T. website .
Out-of-State Certified Officers can apply and go through the hiring process while waiting on their application to be P.O.S.T. approved. Once approved and after meeting the agency's hiring standards, the applicant will receive a conditional officer. If the out-of-state certified officer is hired, the agency will assist the applicant with obtaining the required courses and Georgia's standard qualification course for firearms requalification.

As a Detective, you will conduct follow-up investigations on criminal cases. You will prepare investigative narratives and professional case files. You will conduct in-depth interviews and interrogations with suspects and witnesses. You will work with the District Attorney's Office and testify in court proceedings. You will respond to crime scenes and callouts. You will conduct roll call training with Patrol. You will utilize your strong computer skills and meticulous attention to detail to write clear, concise, and correct reports. You will demonstrate integrity, ingenuity, inventiveness, and strength of character in performing your work. Your outstanding communication and customer service skills are needed as you interact with the general public and other County employees. Your work requires good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing needs and situations. You must be able to work flexible hours, subject to callouts on nights, weekends, and holidays. You will serve as an on-call Detective on a rotational basis for one (1) week at a time. Other duties may be assigned.
High School Diploma or GED, current Georgia Peace Officer Certification, and one (1) year of law enforcement experience. Please upload your GA P.O.S.T. Individual Officer Profile to your application.
An investigation will be conducted based on the information you provide. It is critical that you fill out the application completely, truthfully, and accurately. If at any point during the background investigation or, thereafter, it is found that you misrepresented, deliberately omitted or falsified any information, you will be immediately disqualified from further consideration. It is imperative that you list any convictions to include a finding or a verdict of guilt or a plea of guilty and a plea of nolo contender in a criminal proceeding, regardless of whether the judgment of guilt or sentence is withheld or not entered thereon. This includes first offenders (Georgia State Law 25-8-7.1)

During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
