The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

The Liquid Filter Engineering team has a need for a Design Engineer that will be a technical contributor in the development of liquid filtration solutions. The team member will be involved in collecting customer feedback determining liquid filter requirements and collaborating with strategic suppliers to develop solutions. A successful team member will take initiative to solve problems, develop their own technical expertise, and build productive relationships inside and outside the organization. The Liquid Filter Design Engineer will have the opportunity to interact with teams across the enterprise that are responsible for machines, engines, and major systems / components.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Consult with Sr. Engineers and Management to determine work objectives and the means to achieve them
- Design control support for hydraulic and transmission filters
- Organize and store information related to multiple projects for access by project teams
- Use analytical skills to identify and solve technical problems
- Lead design reviews
- Utilize various data systems and technologies to locate and communicate project information
- Maintain close communications with Internal & External Customers, Cat Dealers, Service Providers and Suppliers during the product development process
- Communicate results to global customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units
- Coach global teams in the design of components and processes, to support aftermarket growth goals
- Design control owner for Screens
- Acknowledge and raise customers’ and management’s awareness of trade-offs between time, resources and quality.
- Provide liquid filter technical leadership and product support to Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Marketing, Sales, Service and other areas
- Define project plans to achieve given goals
- Complete projects on time and on cost
- Work in the liquid filter lab developing or conducting filter tests
- Refine and improve product designs by conducting investigations and developing solutions
- Participate in multiple concurrent NPI (New Product Introduction) projects
Basic Qualifications:
- Product design and validation experience
- Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering or Technology curriculum plus 3+ years of relevant work experience
Top candidates will also have:
- 5+ years of relevant engineering work experience
- Filter experience
- Strong problem-solving skills, a good mechanical aptitude, and good communications & presentation skills
- Previous experience in the development of earthmoving equipment, engines, transmissions, drivetrain, or hydraulic systems
- Demonstrated ability working with large Tier 1 suppliers
- Demonstrated project planning and execution experience
Additional Information:
This position does offer domestic relocation
This position requires less than 20% travel
