Summary
The Department of Dermatology is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide care to patients for an out-patient clinical setting in one or more specialized areas, cosmetics, laser, general dermatology, and Mohs surgery, under the direction of a physician. This individual will provide patient care in the outpatient setting, with potential to assist in the operating room while working closely with faculty, residents, and clinical staff within the department. The accepted candidate will be required to provide clinical excellence, scholarly enthusiasm, and a track record of excellent clinical performance. The practitioner will have direct patient care responsibilities.
Job Duties
Responsibilities will include clinic evaluation, diagnosis, work up, and management of a wide spectrum of dermatologic ailments. The provider will work in collaboration within the assigned physician's clinic, as well as their own scheduled clinics. The selected candidate will perform comprehensive histories and physical exams; order and interpret clinical tests, prescribe medications, diagnose, and develop treatment plans; educate patients/families on treatment options; and conduct follow-up evaluations. May perform such office procedures as excisions, repairs, cosmetics procedures, and biopsies. On-the-job training is available in building these skills. This position affords a tremendous opportunity for autonomy and independent patient care responsibilities. Applicants must be motivated, team oriented, flexible, and have exemplary assessment, organization, communication, and time management skills.
- Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
- Evaluates and modifies the plan of care as needed under the direction of the supervising physician.
- Provide follow-up care to patients, education, and support for patients in accordance with protocols established by the supervising physician.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording in patient medical records.
- Maintains required records in the EPIC electronic medical record system and ensures that clinic-generated information is complete and up to date in the EPIC system.
- Communicate with physicians, patients, and the patient's family about patient care.
- Keep up with continuing medical education requirements as per college and section requirements.
- Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
- Collaborates with providers and practice staff in identifying appropriate patient care management.
- Meet or exceed productivity standards as established by section and/or department.
- Maintain credentialing at all times to ensure practice is not disrupted.
- Renew and meet all required and licensure certification requirements.
- Complete all documentation in a timely manner so other administrative tasks can be done expeditiously to ensure a robust operational system.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Maintain records, write orders, and document progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
- Prescribes, dispenses, and administers pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments to patients.
Minimum Qualifications
- Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP) or Texas Physician Assistant License and specialty certification as required by department: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Experience Required: None required.
- Education Required: Master's degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies.
- Experience Preferred: 2-5 years of experience working in dermatology clinical setting.
