Position Summary
We are a growing consulting firm in need of reliable and talented Debris Monitors to help our clients and communities respond and clean up after a storm, enabling us to successfully initiate and deliver projects, and rapidly respond to our clients' needs by having boots on the ground immediately after disaster strikes.
We are looking for a self-motivated, responsible, and confident individual with a commitment to integrity and the ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with minimal supervision. If this sounds like you, then you have found the right fit in Witt O'Brien's.
Position Details
  • Travel: In local area of assignment
  • Reports to: Field Supervisor
  • FLSA Status: Exempt or Non-Exempt
  • Location: Dixie County / Cross City , FL
  • Pay: Hourly (eligible for OT) or Salary

  • Position Type: On-Call
Essential Job Functions
DAILY AM
  • If not assigned, inform supervisor, and wait for assignment. Do not leave staging area without instruction from supervisor.
  • Once assigned, proceed to work zone, or meet with truck(s) at designated area.
  • Meet at staging (muster area) to check for new information, procedures, maps, issues, phone numbers, and any other pertinent information.
  • Report to work on time at designated area and check in with supervisor.
FIELD DUTIES
  • Fill out load tickets accurately and completely. Always reference name of the cross streets where debris came from. Write neatly and hard enough to make sure all copies are clearly legible. Sign all tickets.
  • If bobcats or loaders continue to move debris while trucks are away, stay and monitor their activities to ensure they do not go on to private property to get debris.
  • Make sure truck is fully loaded and safe to travel; tailgate is secure, debris trimmed and not sticking out of sides or piled too high to ensure debris not likely to fall off.
  • Act courteously, respectful, and professional always with residents, Contractors, County or City officials and fellow employees and managerial personnel.
  • Monitor and observe all loading activities of trucks, bobcats, front-end loaders, or other vehicles as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Record all damages caused by Contractor to private property or public utilities. Call Supervisor to report damages.
  • Ensure you and the truck driver agree where he/she will be going after disposing of debris. Get their mobile phone numbers and give them your mobile number.
  • Meet truck(s) at designated loading or staging site.
  • Retain bottom copy of load ticket and give the rest to the truck driver. Log the information from the ticket into a ticket log sheet.
  • Confirm that the hauling contractors are loading only eligible storm related debris, which is on public rights-of-way or property, and that they are not going on to private property to collect debris.
  • Wear safety vest and hardhat always while out of vehicle.
  • While trucks are in transit to and from the Disposal Site, scout the area for debris and log ineligible piles, update maps of debris collection progress, locate special debris (white goods, stumps, hazardous waste) and log and map.
  • Make sure contractors pick up all eligible debris and clear branches and other debris off roadway and private driveways before moving on.
  • Get out of your vehicle to observe loading activities.
  • Remain a safe distance (50 feet) from loading operations and street traffic. Check area for children, downed power lines, unsafe traffic conditions. Report any safety issues or unsafe or reckless contractor behavior to your supervisor.
  • Call supervisor if you cannot determine debris eligibility or have any questions about policies, procedures, or your responsibilities.
DAILY PM
  • Check for information updates, scheduled meetings, or next assignment, as necessary.
  • Sign out on both the roster and your time sheet. Have Supervisor verify and sign.
  • Turn in all tickets, logs, maps, and field forms. Update master map if required.
  • Brief Supervisor on day's activities, debris collection progress, issues, or problems.
  • This position description incorporates the core responsibilities of the job. It recognizes that other related duties not specifically mentioned might also be performed, and that not all responsibilities may be carried out depending on operational needs.
  • When trucks are finished for the day, report into supervisor at designated area then return to base if not assigned to another truck or task.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Must have a Valid Driver's license and it cannot be suspended
  • Must have current liability auto insurance
  • Ability to work in high degree temperatures with high humidly for long periods of time
  • Good teamwork and cooperation skills
  • Ability to drive and work in areas with disaster and harsh outdoor conditions
  • Possess a cellular phone with charger
  • Possess a reliable and dependable vehicle for following trucks
  • Ability to climb ladders, trucks, and platforms up to 20 feet
  • Ability to always follow safety protocols and work instructions
  • Positive, friendly, courteous customer and client skills
Preferred Job Requirements
  • Prior Debris Monitoring experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
Work Schedule
  • Able to work up to 75-80 hours per week as needed during response period, including weekends
  • Able to work as early as 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week during response period: around 12 to 14 hours per day
