GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):
The camp nurse addresses and promotes the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of students and the camp community. The camp nurse is an essential, professional member of the camp community providing assessment and resources in all areas of health and wellness. As a member of the Student Support Services staff, the role of the camp nurse is to promote good health practices for students and staff and to strive to ensure that all students and staff reach their optimal state of wellness.
Before Camp hours: 7:30-8:30AM
Camp Day Hours: 8:30-4:45 PM (staff) except Thursday - 8:30-6:00PM (Field Trip)
After Camp Hours 4:30-6:00PM
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, per the Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN)
- Current BLS for Health Care Provider certification
- Valid MA DESE Professional Support Personnel license
- Minimum two (2) years’ supervised nursing experience
- Minimum Baccalaureate degree in nursing (accredited college or university)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with Health Office Anywhere (Electronic Health Record) documentation
- Previous pediatric nursing experience
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
- Knowledge about Massachusetts school health standards, rules and regulations
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):
Using sound clinical knowledge and judgment, adhering to the Nurse Practice Act, pertinent regulations governing nursing practice in Massachusetts, the guidelines and standards of care established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education(MDESE) and in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough, the school nurse routinely performs the following duties:
- Coordinates referrals to private healthcare providers
- Performs health screenings.
- Provides skilled nursing care for students and staff.
- Serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment.
The job responsibilities of a school nurse include but are not limited to:
The Camp Nurse will:
- This position works in conjunction with the Camp Directors independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks.
- Coordinate for organization and setting-up of the camp nurse's office and maintenance of an inventory of necessary medical supplies in both the nurse's office and various first aid kits
- Oversees the maintenance and required documentation for Automated External Defibrillators
- Attends Field Trips Off-Site.
- Assist in providing health care information to staff during training and in an ongoing role throughout the summer.
- Nurse's Office Log of daily clinic activities
- Record Keeping: Will maintain accurate and detailed medical records including:
- Coordinate all activities in the nurse's office, including the administering of basic first aid.
- Medication Administration records
- Coordinate the collection, storage, and administration of medication to campers and staff following the policies of the Southborough Public Schools
- Monitor all health records to ensure compliance with state regulations regarding Day Camps
- Provides staff training on epinephrine auto-injector administration.
- Communicable disease reporting- Mass
- Engages with campers during activities, snack, and meal times to encourage full camp participation
- Check all health forms of campers and inform Camp Directors of any specific health problems.
- Incident report forms
- Communicate pertinent health information with parents.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in a school environment during the camp day, however there are weekly field trips off-site.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the nurse is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The nurse is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel. The nurse is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building.
