Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide direct supervision to a group of children at day camp. Provide quality experience to children and parents focused around the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Supervise a group of children and ensure all children are comfortable, safe and feel included.
  • Serve as a positive role model for youth.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and timely program records including but not limited to Summer Food Program (SFP) documentation, attendance sheets, sign-in/sign-out records and accident/incident reports.
  • Maintain positive relations with parents and other staff. Model relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Follow all applicable policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Adhere to program standards including, but not limited to safety and cleanliness.
  • Plan, lead and participate in a range of activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.

Child Protection Responsibilities:

  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Participates in required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire.
  • Previous demonstrated experience working with children and diverse populations.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age and possess a high school diploma/GED; some college preferred.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, camping, music, skits, sports, aquatics, and/or recreational games.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, and depth perception.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside summer weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
