Data Scientist
Job Summary:
The Data Scientist has ownership to utilize data collected through analytical, statistical, and other means, in developing solutionstailored to meet and drive the organizations unique needs. The data scientist interprets raw data with the sole purpose of definingpatterns and identifying solutions that help the organization grow and compete.
Essential Functions:
The Data scientist will have several key responsibilities in the fulfillment of their duties including:
70% of Work:
- Analyze complex datasets using advanced statistical methods and tools, such as Python, Grafana,and others to derive actionable insights, develop smart business solutions and drive businessrecommendations.
- Utilize Python and SQL for data extraction, transformation, and loading (extract, transform, load -ETL) processes.
- Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and visualizations within analytic tools (Grafana) toeffectively communicate data insights to business stakeholders.
- Create and maintain data models and metadata documentation.
- Continuously learn and stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emergingtechnologies in the data engineering and analytics space.
- Create and define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of data-driveninitiatives.
- Perform data validation and enrichment to ensure accuracy and consistency.
20% of Work:
- Utilization of business sense and communication skills to influence how the organization tacklesand resolves business challenges.
- Partner with stakeholders across business units (ex: sales, finance, security, compliance) todevelop analyses and documentation in a collaborative way, communicating effectively andefficiently with production, managerial, and executive teams.
10% of Work:Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications:
The successful Data Scientist should have core experience and skills in computer science: data structures, algorithms, relationaldatabases, and model design including experience in several coding languages:
- Good knowledge of Python and SQL (accessing databases).
- Strong math, analytical and critical thinking skills, with business acumen.
- Working experience with cloud computing services such as AWS, Google Analytics, Redshift or Google Cloud Platform.
- Considerable experience in open-source data mining, machine-learning, and operations research including regressions andclassification models.
- Familiarity with version control tools, such as Git and GitHub required.
- Persuasive communication and presentation skills.
When evaluating the candidate, special attention will be paid to the following competencies:
- Autonomous, to own projects end-to-end; ability to work on the entire stack without being dependent on otherteam members.
- Focus, to design and evaluate a technique over specific time periods, find it doesnt work, learn from the failure,and try again.
- People skills necessary to build good working relationships and work as part of a team.
- Attention to Detail, in order to maintain rigor and to detect and avoid over-reliance on intuition when examiningdata.
- Intellectual Curiosity and Critical Thinking, necessary to analyze a problem from multiple perspectives and examinethe interrelationships between data that may appear superficially unrelated.
- Clear and concise written and oral communication, in order to communicate complex quantitative analysis in aclear and precise manner.
Education and Training:
Data scientists typically need a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics, plus 2-4 years previous workexperience as a data scientist.
