Job Description

Data Center Technician – Level 1


A Data Center Technician will be the technical liaison between the technology teams and the Data Center Environment. You are able to troubleshoot and solve all but the most complex infrastructure issues.

As a skilled troubleshooter on a wide range of Data Center environment and systems you understand which issues to escalate to the appropriate resolver groups.

You create and maintain documentation on technologies you support. You understand all aspects of the equipment you support. You know how to innovate and make decisions on your own, but also know how to take direction when it is given, paying attention to all details involved.


Responsibilities:


  • Expected to improve current processes, and introduce automation with aim towards simplification and efficiency increases
  • Perform hardware troubleshooting and maintenance for GoDaddy infrastructure, with focus on mission critical systems (storage, network, servers)
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues
  • Formulate, affect, interpret, and implement policies and procedures
  • Perform data and power cable management, testing, and installation
  • Respond to all requests from 24x7 business operations centers
  • Responsible for planning and executing small projects with direction from leadership
  • Find creative ways to optimize capital and operating costs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with business partners and third-party vendors with a focus on quality and SLA compliance

  • Walk/move about the data center facility for up to 85% of shift time.

  • Programming / scripting (Java, Perl, Ruby, Python, and/or PHP) ·
    • Directory Structure
  • Must pass a skill-assessment and performance review after 90 days

  • Experience supporting large Enterprise customers in an operations environment
  • Boot Process
  • Some experience with Python, Bash, Powershell or Java
    • File Systems
    • SAS/SATA
  • Ability to kneel, crawl, reach above shoulder height and lift 50lbs repeatedly throughout shift on a daily basis.
  • X86 Architecture
  • Basic experience with the following IT hardware concepts:

    • RAID

      • System Administration:

  • Work a flexible shift and participate in an on-call rotation
    • x86 Architecture
  • Travel between Data Center sites

  • SAS/SATA
    • Base Operating System Install
  • Must have demonstrated basic expertise in two or more of these areas:

    • Systems administration (Linux and/or Windows Servers) ·

    • Networking (DNS, DHCP) ·

    • Programming / scripting (Java, Perl, Ruby, Python, and/or PHP) ·

    • Some experience with Python, Bash, Powershell or Java
  • Systems administration (Linux and/or Windows Servers) ·
  • Base Operating System Install
    • System Administration:
  • Core OS Services: SSH, Telnet, RDP, FTP, NFS, DNS, DHCP, LDAP

Preferred skills:

  • Basic Linux OS knowledge
