This is a professional Data Architect within the University’s Office of Budget and Planning. This position assists the Office of Budget and Planning in data design for the institutional budgeting and planning software (Anaplan), automating business processes and SQL data builds, and supporting integrations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Designing data structures for Institutional Budgeting and Planning Software:

  • Creates and revises maintenance technical documentation.
  • Creates SQL builds.
  • Designs and maintains forms, reports, and associated calculated fields for end-users and administration.
  • Prepares detailed technical specifications.
  • Designs and maintains workflow automations and code data validations.
  • Designs and maintains data structure for datasets / requirements to support OLAP-based (data slice) and Relational-based reporting.

Automating Business Processes and SQL Builds:

  • Automates SQL data builds.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts to identify business and technical requirements.
  • Enables standardized processes over time.
  • Partners with subject matter experts to create process documentation to be used in automating processes, ensuring alignment with process policies and procedures.
  • Builds and customizes automated workflows and reports to support key stakeholders.

Data Integration:

  • Defines, designs, and builds dimensional database schemas.
  • Defines and captures metadata and rules associated with ETL processes.
  • Adapts ETL processes to accommodate changes in source systems and new business processes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to break down processes into detailed components.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to focus on deadlines and deliverables.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.
  • Ability to think critically/analytically as well as exhibit an interest in learning and taking on challenging tasks.
  • Ability to independently propose solutions to problems for manager review, requiring innovation and creativity.
  • Knowledge of higher education administrative systems and related business principles.
  • Ability to create structure in a dynamic, often ambiguous and/or complex environment.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and work under minimal guidance to determine the best approach and use creativity to achieve maximum results and handle new situations.
  • Ability to identify problems and their root cause.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field AND three years of experience with databases and programming OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience with database design, and SQL
  • Experience with UAccess Enterprise Systems; Financials, Budget, Analytics, Employee, and Student
  • Experience with dimensional modeling
  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field
  • Experience with Process Automation and SQL Procedures and Triggers
