The Administration & Governance team delivers scalable and data driven products and features that are core for Power BI. We're looking for a Data Analyst II who has experience building enterprise grade analytics solutions who can drive delivery of insights to millions of Power BI Admins and Users.
As a Data Analyst II on the Power BI Admin and Governance Team you will demonstrate proper dimensional modeling techniques, expertise in DAX and Power Query M and exceptional data storytelling as you build customer facing admin tools.

Responsibilities
You will be working with Data Cloud Administration & Governance Team to manage various reports that are consumed by Power BI to gain insights into report performance and usage patterns, analyze audit events and monitor capacity resource utilization. You will play a key role in ensuring that these reports are industry-leading and provide insights for tenant administrators and content owners to understand how Power BI products are used within their organization.
Responsibilities Include
Data Analyst:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the tradeoff between analytical requirements and compute/storage consumption for data.
  • Evaluates project plan to understand data costs, access, usage, use cases, and availability for scenarios related to product features.
  • Assess feasibility of data needs and finds alternative options if requirements cannot be met.
  • Partner with Product Managers to translate requirements into scalable and sustainable Features.
  • Applies product knowledge to validate that the correct data is ingested and that the data is modeled and shaped correctly.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of costs associated with data that are used to assess the total cost of ownership.
  • Through the analysis of relevant data sources, develop insights to aid Power BI Service Administrators.
  • Partner with Data Engineering teams to ensure data quality and completeness from upstream sources.
Governance
  • Governs accessibility of data within assigned data pipelines and/or data model(s).
  • Follows data modeling and data handling procedures to maintain compliance with applicable laws and policies across assigned workstreams
Support
  • Own, develop, and drive insights from performance data for product engineers
  • Own and develop the data models and reports for external facing customers.
  • Contributes to troubleshooting guides (TSGs) and operating procedures for reviewing, addressing, and/or fixing problems/anomalies.
  • Perform root cause analysis in response to detected problems/anomalies to identify the reason for alerts and implement solutions that minimize points of failure.
  • Manage monitoring and alerting based on performance data
  • Provide data-based insights into the health of data products owned by the team according to service level agreements (SLAs) across assigned features.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field AND 2+ year(s) experience in business analytics, data science, software development, or data engineering work
  • 2+ years of proficiency with industry standard data warehousing principles
  • 2+ years of experience in analyzing large volumes of data, extracting insights, processing large data sets, and building visualizations using reporting tools such as Power BI
  • OR equivalent experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work
Background Check Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work experience
  • Basic understanding of statistics and machine learning
  • Previous experience working with enterprise-scale cloud services and/or applications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science , Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work
  • Experience with performance tuning and optimization of large scale data platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous situations and across organizational boundaries
  • OR equivalent experience
  • Ability to influence diverse audiences and build strong partnerships with stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to synthesize complex issues/scenarios into easy-to-understand concepts
  • Experience with Power BI Tenant/Capacity/Workspace Administration
  • Action-oriented, self-motivated, agile, attending to detail and driven to think out-of-the-box
Data Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
