Job Description

The Utility Services Unit for the City of Savannah is looking for an aggressive self-directed learner who is a taskmaster, proficient with office technology, and can think above their role while supporting the Utility Services team. This position supports the unit by serving as a team lead and backup to the supervisor. JOB FAIR: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19, 2023 | 2pm to 6pm (Apply now for On-site Interview) Essential Job Functions
  • Processes applications for Fire Hydrant meters and Backflow preventers.
  • Assists customers in arranging suitable payment plans for their delinquent accounts.
  • Reviews meter reading and billing reports; updates account information as necessary.
  • Updates and maintains all utility discount programs.
  • Processes returned items.
  • Calculates and posts reading corrections and adjustments to accounts
  • Receives, updates and process ACH account information.
  • Creates reconnect workorders.
  • Reviews and updates charge status for delinquent accounts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent with one (1) year of experience in customer service, bookkeeping, accounts payable or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Requirements Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment Additional Information Knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental accounting. Knowledge of municipal auditing principles and practices. Knowledge of City budgetary policies. Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal regulations. Skill in developing short- and long-range plans. Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work. Skill in creating computerized spreadsheets. Skill in the completion of complex financial audits. Skill in public and interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Enters new service locations.
  • Responds to escalated customer service issues/complaints.
  • Runs the delinquent billing process to generate late charges, fees and service interruptions.
  • Produces regular utility bills for all utility customers.
  • Performs typical duties associated with CSR/Senior Account Clerk positions.
  • Assists with assigning and monitoring daily work and providing work direction; serves in the absence of the supervisor.
