Custodian (20 Hours) Jobs

• Summary of Duties**** :** Under basic supervision, the Custodian is responsible for performing custodial work in City buildings and related work, as required.

**Examples of ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**

• Picks up trash and debris in assigned areas around buildings.
• Cleans restrooms; maintains restroom supplies in assigned areas.
• Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, mini-blinds and other surfaces.
• Cleans kitchens, dressing rooms, meeting rooms, etc. (Plano Centre).
• Vacuums and shampoos carpeted floors.
• Provides assistance in setting up for special functions, parties and meetings; assists with food service functions (table setting, dish washing, etc.)
• Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
• Washes and spot-cleans windows.
• Empties trash containers.
• Sweeps and mops hard surface floors.

Marginal Duties

• Typical Decisions**** :** The incumbent must decide which cleaning supplies to use for each purpose.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of:** Various equipment, materials, and products used in janitorial maintenance; safety policies, procedures, and practices.
• Education:** No formal education required.
• Experience:** Six (6) months of experience in janitorial maintenance preferred.
• Skill in:** Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; following instructions; lifting and moving furniture and supplies in accordance with safety procedures.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements

• Conditions of Employment:** Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
• Physical Demands and Working Conditions:** Must possess mobility to work in and around City buildings and facilities, to operate a motor vehicle and drive on surface streets; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, and to operate varied hand and power tools and equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when cleaning. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
• Licenses and Certifications:** Texas Class C driver's license (must obtain within 30 days of hire per state law).

Employees work in and around buildings and facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, cleaning chemicals, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.
