Description

The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for leading a team that maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of town buildings, offices, gyms, and parks.

In this role, the Custodial Supervisor inspects the level of cleanliness to facilities and has extensive experience in cleaning procedures, equipment, and supplies. This position is also responsible for training team members, completing performance evaluations, and providing reports to management. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager within the Public Works Department. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to planning, assigning and supervising work of park attendants; conducting regular inspections of the different assignments for maintenance of proper standards of cleanliness and repair; performing custodial responsibilities as needed, and consulting with customers in buildings on matters pertaining to custodial services. The successful candidate will requisition cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment; experiment with new cleaning materials and advise on effectiveness; and manage building access keys and monitoring gate control systems.

Examples of Duties

  • Assists with interviews of applicants for placement in division positions; conducts performance evaluations and assists with disciplinary actions for division staff;
  • Schedules, conducts regular meetings with contractors;
  • Orders and issues supplies, parts, tools and other maintenance and related items; authorizes payments;
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Identifies and insures proper training to increase the knowledge, skill, and proficiency related to work assignments;
  • Prepares periodic and special reports to document division activities;
  • Plans, obtains estimates, and manages contracts for custodial projects;
  • Manage Third Party Suppliers and Service Providers;
  • Ensures the proper execution of the Town’s janitorial contract;
  • Prepares and submits annual divisional budget requests and performs other departmental budget duties as assigned; maintains control of division budget and other resources;
  • Supervisor shall be adequately trained in the compliance of all applicable OSHA, EPA, and other Federal, State and Local laws and regulations regarding materials that may be encountered in the performance of the Services
  • Plans, organizes, and directs daily activities along with a variety of building maintenance and janitorial projects; manages facility custodial services; supervises the work of employees engaged in the maintenance of buildings; maintains records, files, and ensures time records are filled out accurately;
  • Plans, schedules and directs annual projects such as floor care maintenance, window cleaning, and washing buildings;
  • Consults with internal customers concerning their janitorial needs and problems;
  • Performs periodic emergency cleaning response such as: Floor cleaning, Unclogging toilets, sanitation / deodorization, trash, mopping, vacuuming, and wipe downs of surfaces.
  • Responsible for ensuring that each Facility is secure (locked), and security system appropriately activated at the end of each shift;
  • Ensures employee safe working practices are followed;
  • Track and report status of open projects. Provide historical data for analyzing trends;
  • Ensures that all shop equipment and tools are efficiently and effectively utilized for their intended purposes;

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.
Applicants must have at least one year of commercial building cleaning experience.
Previous supervisory or team/crew leadership experience is required.
Must be able to exercise sound decision-making, comply with workplace safety regulations, and follow written and oral instructions.
Applicants should have good computer skills and effectively use email and relevant programs in the Microsoft Office suite.

Preference will be given the applicants with at least 3 years of experience supervising the cleaning of commercial buildings.

The salary range shown is the hiring range. The starting salary will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills and qualifications.
