Job Description
Description

The Custodial Supervisor shall report to the Vice President for Operations & Special Projects. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Monitors and inspects buildings, facilities, and plant site to ensure standards are met.
  • Serves as liaison and/or represents the custodial area to campus departments and serves on college committees as assigned by the Director of Physical Plant.
  • Recommends purchase of cleaning equipment and materials and maintains supply storeroom.
  • May prepare or assist in the preparation and implementation of policies and procedures for the department.
  • Plans and coordinates the activities of the custodial staff; participates in custodial activities as needed.
  • Aids in the instruction and training of custodial staff in the safe use of equipment and materials.
  • May participate in and assist custodial staff in all cleaning activities
  • Coaches, reviews, and supervises assigned employees, or makes effective suggestions and recommendations regarding employment status.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Determines priorities and schedules major custodial projects.
  • Nothing contained here in shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
  • Recommends and administers the work standards and practices for the custodial department.
  • Responsible for the supply requisition process and ensures necessary supplies and equipment are available and well maintained.
  • Recommends new methods to promote efficiency and reduce costs, and initiates training programs for custodial staff.
  • Participates in budget preparation and makes recommendations based on statistics and projections; monitors budget and allocates resources according to constraints.
  • Ensures all flags on campus are raised and lowered in a timely manner as directed and following appropriate procedures.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of maintenance and supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess a valid New Mexico or Texas driver’s license.
  • Positions may require the ability to safely move up to 50 pounds and drive a forklift.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare a variety of reports.
  • Skill in providing training and instruction to others in proper work methods and safety, and providing feedback on work performance.
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation practices and measures required.
  • Skill in supervising the work activities of others.
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the duties of the position and to use computers to track work orders and order supplies/materials.
  • Ability to accurately estimate costs, supplies and materials needed for jobs.
  • Working knowledge of training and supervisory practices and principles.
  • Ability to perform work involving regular physical activity.
  • Ability to establish, promote and maintain cooperative work relationships with others and analyze situations and take appropriate action.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
  • Ability to operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies applicable to the position; observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Additional Information

This is a twelve-month exempt position. Standard benefits apply. The full pay range for this position is $60,038.00 to $87,464.00
