Social Services Manager SHIFT Full-Time, Monday-Friday 7:45 am- 4:30 pm
Job Summary
The Crisis Support Counselor is an integral part of the DeKalb Regional Crisis Center, which provides crisis evaluation, stabilization, and withdrawal management to individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders. As an important member of our multi-disciplinary team, provides individual and group counseling, safety assessments and crisis intervention plans, and other treatment modalities within an evidence-based framework. Actively contributes to the treatment center and organization through on-going collaborative efforts.
Duties And Responsibilities
ASSESSESMENT SUPPORT

• Utilizes specific assessment tools in evaluation of the client, including the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale
• Identify discharge resources appropriate to client needs and coordinate aftercare appointments.
• Provide evidence-based brief supportive counseling and interventions
• Demonstrates strong clinical judgement in assessment, identifying barriers to client care, and sound discharge decisions.
• Performs timely and thorough psychosocial assessment of the less complex to more complex clients and documents the assessment within agency guidelines
• Seeks clinical supervision as necessary.
• Provides suicide prevention support and employs de-escalation techniques with individuals in emotion distress utilizing active listening and solution-focused interaction styles.

THERAPEUTIC COUNSELING

• Provides orientation support to clients new to the unit prior to primary counselor assignment
• Demonstrates clinical proficiency in client engagement, interviewing and recording
• Creates therapeutic relationship as appropriate with clients and families/significant others
• Demonstrates effective establishment of rapport with a diverse client population
• Demonstrates clinical knowledge in mental health, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorder treatment
• Conducts individual, family, and group counseling, as well as educational sessions using evidence-based interventions d. Assesses and documents client response to interventions and modifies interventions as needed.

CARE PLANNING SUPPORT

• Actively engages in behavioral health educational initiatives
• Document referrals, discharges, resources or other issues for problem resolution and/or utilization as required in agency policy
• Procures client records from medical facilities to facilitate referral process
• Assist's client's primary counselor with contacting programs and resources on behalf of the client
• Completes follow-up telephone calls to discharged clients to assess current clinical status and connection with aftercare arrangements. Completes the Structured Follow-up and Monitoring Note as per policy.
• Actively participates in clinical supervision
• Communicates effectively in all written and oral interaction
• PROFESSIONAL
• Completes timely discharge planning documents, including the crisis and safety plan
• Seeks continuing education to meet current clinical needs
• Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor

Skill, Competency And Education And/Or Licensure Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree and Independent licensure in Georgia as a Clinical Social Worker, Professional Counselor and/or Marriage and Family Therapist is required. Two years of related work experience, computer proficient and ability to multi-task. Preferred Qualifications: 2 years work experience in a similar setting/situation.
INTER-RELATIONSHIPS
Able to communicate effectively with co-workers, internal and external customers and the public. Ability to interact and communicate with clients and their families effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in a crisis setting. May be required to work holidays, weekends, or evenings; may be required to be on-call for limited amounts of time for emergency situations.
