Summary


The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office whose mission is to promote excellence, integrity, and accountability throughout the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). In our dynamic environment, the OIG conducts investigations, audits, evaluations, and other reviews to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency, and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, and mismanagement in EEOC programs and operations.

Duties


  • Testifies before grand juries, courts or administrative hearings on results of completed investigations. Makes recommendations to the Deputy Inspector General on investigative activities.
  • Initiates and maintains liaison with members of Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and coordinates multi-jurisdictional investigations.
  • Plans and conducts investigations of violations to Title 18, US Code, governing various fraudulent activities.
  • Analyzes criminal complaints and determines certain patterns and trends and recommends appropriate action. Develops investigations and patterns by collecting data and reviewing for accuracy and completeness.
  • Plans and conducts physical security and asset protection surveys of EEOC facilities. Plans and conducts complex tort claims investigations against the EEOC.
  • Plans and conducts investigations into alleged fraud and violations of numerous Federal acts affecting labor law provisions, EEOC contracts, contractors, and contractor employees.
  • Plans and conducts civil and administrative investigations.
  • Prepares reports and represents findings orally and in writing to managers, prosecutors, and other high-level officials. Confers with and assists U.S. Attorneys in preparing information and evidence for trials.
  • Performs criminal, civil and administrative investigations involving persons and property under the charge and control of EEOC pursuant to Federal statutes, EEOC Orders and general office instructions.
  • Analyzes initial allegations and recommends required investigative resources and collateral support. Plans and conducts surveillance or undercover work.
Requirements Conditions of Employment


  • This position requires you to qualify with your assigned weapon on a quarterly basis.
  • This position requires you to possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • This position requires that you agree to work an average of two extra hours per day. Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) has been approved to compensate for unscheduled duty in excess of the 40-hour workweek.
  • This position requires travel to other duty locations approximately 25% of the time.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
  • This position requires that you complete or have previously completed the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA OR its equivalent.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
  • This position requires that you carry a firearm and conduct full law enforcement activities. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National


Qualifications


For the GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal service. Specialize experience includes experience conducting complex investigations that are primarily criminal in nature; investigating issues pertaining to administration and oversight in support of the organization's mission; studying and analyzing areas considered sensitive to criminal activity, fraud and abuse for the purpose of determining effective controls and designating areas for detection efforts.


Age Restriction: The date immediately preceding an individual's 37th birthday is the maximum entry age for original appointment to a law enforcement officer position. This requirement does not apply to a) Preference-eligible veterans; OR b) Individuals who are 37 years of age or older and have previously served in law enforcement officer positions that were covered by a special law enforcement retirement plan.


MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: The selectee must pass a pre-appointment physical examination and meet the physical requirements for this position as required by this agency. The duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision and hearing are required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Because the duties of this position are exacting, responsible, and sometimes performed under trying conditions, the selectee must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the selectee to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.

Additional Information


Complete a pre-employment medical examination, unless already working in a position covered under 5 USC 8336(c) with another Federal law enforcement agency and have passed a physical exam within the previous 6 months. Prior to appointment, the selectee must be determined to be physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties such as making arrests, conducting surveillances, using firearms, etc., and also pass a medical examination (which includes vision, hearing, cardiovascular, mobility of extremities, and other factors) given by an authorized government physician. Any physical condition that would cause the selectee to be a hazard to herself/himself or others is disqualifying. You may be required to provide medical or related documentation to Federal Occupation of Health at the time of the pre-employment physical. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.


Relocation expenses will not be paid.
