Job Description

What’s the role?

We want a highly motivated, reliable, and skilled individual to join the Police Department for the position of Crime Analyst with the City of Mountain View. You will join a fast-paced, dynamic team environment and play a vital role in successfully providing analytical staff assistance to the Police Department related to community crime and safety issues.


The Essentials

  • Or three years of increasingly complex full-time administrative and analytical experience and
  • An associate of arts degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver License.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • One year of increasingly complex full-time administrative and analytical experience and


Bonus Points:

  • Experience in law enforcement records or court experience.
  • International Association of Crime Analysis Certification.


What you’ll do

  • Collect, organize, and analyze various crime, incident, calls for service, arrests, and data generated throughout the department using a variety of computer databases, electronic spreadsheets, geographic information systems (GIS) applications, desktop publishing, word processing, and statistical applications to manipulate, examine, and present crime data in written reports.
  • Perform routine strategical crime analysis and research projects, as requested, relating to the crime analysis program.
  • Collect and organize criminal information from all available resources, including field interview reports, other agencies, media, and crime bulletins.
  • Participate in development and implementation of new or revised programs, activities, systems, procedures, and methods of operation.
  • Provide technical direction and training for staff supporting crime analysis initiatives including reviewing work performed.
