This is technical work in the analysis of crime information. This type of work includes collection, crime data coding, documentation, analysis and correlation of crime data and trends in order to improve criminal apprehension and crime prevention.
An employee in this class is responsible for providing services to the Police Department as it pertains to reviewing, editing, verifying, classifying and coding crime data for the development of predictive and projective crime trend reports for targeted areas and the City as a whole. This employee is responsible for the assembly and organization of crime data for review, as well as the identification of trends and patterns in order to recommend conclusions and corrective actions. Work is assigned and results evaluated by the Police Administrative Captain or his/her designee.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible police related experience as a crime analyst, research assistant, or sworn police officer in a criminal justice agency, preferably a police agency.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, criminology, police administration, statistics, public administration or a related field; and
Or
- Combination of education, training, and/or work experience equal to or greater than the requirements listed above as determined by Human Resources.
Necessary Special Requirements:
- Must obtain National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and/or Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) Certification within one (1) year of the date of employment in this classification. Must maintain NCIC and/or FCIC Certifications.
- Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.
