About Our Opportunity


We invite you to apply to join our team as a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt Court Specialist for General Sessions for the York County Clerk of Court. The purpose of this position is to perform routine to complex specialized administrative duties to ensure effective and efficient operation of assigned division. This requires performing regular office procedures and maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and records. Ensures efficient and effective case management of criminal, traffic, and civil cases and perform specialized duties to expedite the judicial process.


Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (40 hours per week)

Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date case files, including disposing of cases; expunges cases; issues/recalls bench warrants; maintains docket book and journal.
  • Prepares, processes, copies, files, transmits, and/or mails various court documents, orders, notices, letters of correspondence, bond forms/documents, and discharges of County inmates, etc.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Answers multi-line phones, performs criminal background checks; receipts and posts monies for fines/fees/restitution into Case Management System; receives/responds to requests for information from outside agencies.
  • Prepares all documents and performs court/ministerial duties; assists with proceedings; calculates fines/fees for all cases.
  • Based upon proper jurisdiction, time date stamp, processes, input codes into Case Management System, copies/scans all incoming case documents pursuant to SC Judicial Department guidelines. Distributes proper paperwork to appropriate offices.
  • Drafts, types, revises, processes, copies, files, transmits, and/or distributes a variety of forms, records, reports, notices, legal documents, and correspondence.


About You


Experience and Education -


Experience And Education


  • Three (3) years of experience with the judicial system, customer service or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Associates degree in business administration, Criminal Justice or related field.


Certifications And Licenses


  • Notary Public Certification required.
  • Driver's license is preferred.


Physical Requirements


Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.


Physical Demands


Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.


  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
