General Summary:


The Float courier Lab Assistant is responsible for the timely pick-up and delivery of medical specimens and supplies using a company vehicle. In addition, they are expected to assist the manager with issues and concerns from couriers and clients, bringing them to the attention of the Transportation Manager.

Position Summary:

The Float Courier Lab assistant safely and efficiently transports specimens and supplies between clients and our laboratory locations. As needed, the Float Courier Lab Assistant will assist with receiving and distribution of specimens to appropriate departments in the laboratory and help with additional lab or support tasks as needed. The Float Courier Lab Assistant exhibits a professional demeanor and acts as a team player while on duty. Float Courier Lab Assistant duties take place in multiple locations and across multiple departments where they must adhere to strict HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act) standards as well as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements as well as myriad driving conditions.

Position Schedule: Sunday 6am - 4:30pm

Essential Job Functions:

  • Report client needs and/or issues to supervisor or another responsible department
  • Assist Support departments on various tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Archiving and filing of pathology materials
    • Receiving back and recording of pathology materials from various facilities
    • Upload and correlation of referral and consultative reports
    • Other duties as assigned

  • Intake and sort biological specimens
  • Picking up and delivering slides, supplies, reports, etc. between clients and main laboratories
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Assist Manager with route changes and will calls
  • Take on will call stops in addition to regular route
  • Archiving and filing of pathology materials
  • Company car maintenance including fueling, cleaning, stocking with emergency equipment and reporting larger issues to the Supervisor
  • As needed, assist Accessioning department on various tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Intake and sort biological specimens
    • Dispose of biohazardous material according to OSHA standards
    • Distribute work through multiple laboratory departments
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Receiving back and recording of pathology materials from various facilities
  • Upload and correlation of referral and consultative reports
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Dispose of biohazardous material according to OSHA standards
  • Create Client Intake Forms and submit to supervisor

Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • 6-months work driving experience helpful
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Valid driver's license
  • Safe driving record (you will be required to provide a copy of your motor vehicle record)
  • Strong customer service with the ability to communicate verbally with customers in a professional manner
  • Strong familiarity with the Puget Sound area
  • Able to pass a criminal history background check
  • Able complete required paperwork accurately and completely
  • Some experience in a lab or medical office setting is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good with time management, organization, and can multitask
  • Exhibit precise attention to detail
  • Adaptable, flexible, and resourceful
