Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


A baccalaureate degree plus three years of professional level experience in offender records analysis, offender classification, offender pre-classification, probation and parole, security, or social services. One year of the experience must have been in offender records analysis, offender classification, or offender pre-classification.


Substitutions


Six years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree.


Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows:


A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.


30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.


60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.


90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.


120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.


College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.


A master's degree in social work, criminal justice or psychology will substitute for one year of the required general experience.


NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

To serve as a supervisor over all phases of a Pre-classification - Classification program for a geographic region of the State of Louisiana, Records Management Section, the IMPACT program statewide, or the Louisiana Parole Violator/Extradition program nationwide.

Job Distinctions


Differs from Corrections ARDC Specialist 3 by the presence of supervisory duties.


Differs from Corrections ARDC Manager by the absence of managerial duties over an entire geographic region or program.


Differs from Corrections Classification Officer 4 by the presence of supervisory duties in the areas of Pre-classification/ARDC Classification.


Examples of Work


Supervise and coordinate duties of lower-level personnel to ensure that all aspects of inmate incarceration related to public safety, rehabilitation, and inmate welfare are met for inmates from the time of preliminary classification and pre-classification in local facilities through the reception process and subsequent assignment to permanent housing facilities or until discharge from the local facility.


Reviews work of subordinates to ensure compliance with statutory, legal, and department requirements.


Determines eligibility and recommends inmates for work release, minimum security programs, IMPACT, special treatment programs, status reductions, job, school, or housing assignments giving special consideration to inmates with special medical or mental health needs and specialized functions/programs specific to the facility.


Assist with monitoring the fugitive and interstate extradition programs on a statewide basis. Coordinates with various state and national government officials to have subject returned to Louisiana or released to another state.


Establishes allocating criteria used to determine levels of various classification programs based on a combination of special functions plus caseload.


Consults with supervisors as to inmates' progress and development within the total classification program.


Makes recommendations for policies and procedures.


Represents the Corrections Warden relating to all inmate concerns in telephone or direct conversations with inmate families, elected officials, and other government officials.


Serves as disciplinary board chairman/member, initial board chairman, and ex-officio notary for the unit.


Makes routine rounds in dining halls, cellblocks, dormitories, inmate work areas, hobby shops, and medical facilities.


Drafts correspondence regarding the various programs or inmates concerns.


Coordinates with the institutional classification sections and sheriffs to facilitate and schedule the intake and movement of adult offenders. May function as statewide parole violator coordinator.


Interviews and counsels inmates at initial reception and throughout their incarceration ensuring appropriate institutional assignments and adjustments are being met.
