Vanguard Renewables is the premier anaerobic digester developer/owner/operator in the United States. Our closed-loop anaerobic digestion process converts organic waste and cow manure into green electricity or renewable natural gas as well as other related “value-added” products. We are headquartered in MA, funded by institutional capital partners, and currently, have 20+ projects operating and in development in over 13 states. We have a plan to aggressively expand into other domestic markets.
- Ensure and maintain continued and proper level of insurance coverage (D&O, liability, property, cyber, pollution, auto, builders’ risk, etc.);
- Review bids and contract agreements and recommend changes to minimize and protect the company’s liability assumed by contract (this function is particularly vital during new contract negotiations, acquisitions, divestitures and lease renewals);
- Develop and monitor a system of equitable allocation of premiums if needed.
- Evaluate performance of brokers and carriers.
- Establish and recommend frameworks to foster risk mitigation with those closest to the incident, resulting in significant savings in worker compensation payouts and premiums.
- If applicable, manage state and federal filings, if needed, as respects benefits program and workers compensation program.
- Oversee the claims management program and review and approve public liability and workers compensation claims settlements.
- Supervise and on-site inspections from insurance carriers.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive insurance compliance system for the Ag and Organics business, including vendor/sub-contractor compliance requirements.
- Negotiate with brokers and carriers to obtain the most favorable premium and coverage and insurance market selection.
- Purchase, and maintain general insurance protection for the company, including property, public liability, workers compensation, D&O and related exposures.
- Coordinate facility recommendations with appropriate operations personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Develop, manage, and direct a program concerned with identifying, analyzing and evaluating risks and exposures which could result in substantial losses to the company and take appropriate action to control and minimize the loss potential.
- Plan, direct and evaluate activities regarding Corporate Risk Insurance Programs.
- Consistent and on-time attendance.
- Develop methods and markets for financing insurance in a cost-effective manner.
- Develop and supervise the preparation of detailed financial report (monthly/quarterly) that are utilized by senior management.
- Manage Certificate of Insurance requirements.
- Supervise and evaluate physical inspections of company-owned property by risk management personnel or outside engineers, to determine their vulnerability to loss or damage.
- Review and recommend expanded insurance programs in line with the growth of the business.
- Coordinate, manage and direct the negotiation and coordinate and settlement of property insurance claims on behalf of the Company.
- Acute attention to detail and accurate data keeping.
- Well-developed sense of humor.
- Ability to prioritize and reprioritize individual and team tasks based on urgency, importance, and due dates.
- 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of finance, tax, and accounting as it applies to risk management and insurance programs.
- Associate Risk Management (ARM) and/or Certificate in Property Casualty Underwriter preferred.
- Good analytical skills, excellent communication skills, ability to work independently, and make sound decisions.
- Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline.
