Job Description

Responsibilities


I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implements, monitors, and updates a comprehensive program that encompasses both patient care and employee health issues.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Essential: finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking.
  • Frequent: standing, sitting, walking, lifting and carrying usual weight of 10 pounds, repetitive arm/hand motions, frequent gripping of an object.
  • Operates computer, typewriter, telephone, fax, printer.
  • Occasional: stopping/bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, squatting, lifting weight up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling weight up to 50 pounds of force, carrying usual weight of 10 pounds up to 25 pounds, reaching above, at and below shoulder level.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work schedule may require being available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and via pager.
  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
  • Current certification in Infection and Prevention Control through the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC) preferred.
  • Hawaii State license as a Registered Nurse or Clinical Laboratory Specialist preferred.
  • Successful completion of APIC’s EPI 101 or comparable course preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred with a preference in Public Health.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science.

B. EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience to demonstrate the following:
  • Two (2) years experience in an acute care or community healthcare setting.
o Knowledge of epidemiological principles, infectious diseases, microbiology, sterilization, sanitation and disinfection practices.
o Leadership and teaching experience, including adult education principles, and/or patient care practices.
o Experience with regulatory requirements for The Joint Commission, OSHA, and other federal and state agencies. State of Hawaii DOH experience preferred.
o Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Experience with a hospital Infection Prevention and Control Program preferred.
  • Experience working in process improvement, epidemiology, microbiology preferred.
