Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital is a 35-bed rural acute care hospital located in Waimea (Kamuela), Hawaii Island. Responsibilities


I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under the general direction of the Director, Quality/Risk Management, the Infection Control Coordinator is responsible for providing surveillance throughout the ambulatory/outpatient setting for infection control purposes.
  • Identifies, investigates, and records data concerning hospital acquired infections. Performs studies to identify and implement actions to improve the prevention of hospital acquired infections and assures that plans meet Joint Commission, state and federal regulations.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Continuous: sitting
  • Essential: seeing, hearing, speaking
  • Occasional: walking, lifting and carrying light weight materials, lifting supplies/equipment up to maximum 35 pounds, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Exposure to the risk of blood borne diseases, infectious and disease-bearing specimens; infectious and contagious diseases; hazards of handling diseased organs and tissue; odorous chemicals and gases; low level radiation; and bio- hazardous substances.
  • May be subject to many interruptions.
  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
  • Current Hawaii State license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

B. EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience to demonstrate the following:
  • Three (3) years of general nursing experience, including experience in Infection Control.
o Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
o Knowledge of nursing principles and standards of practice.
o Ability to understand and analyze statistics.
o Ability to anticipate tasks and prioritize assignments.
o Ability to communicate in effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
o Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel; Access highly desirable.)
