Job Description


The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).


Woodward Resource Center (WRC) is seeking Cooks to join our team.


This position starts at $14.11 per hour. Eight-hour workday between the starting hours of 6AM and end by 5:45PM.


Experience equal to one year of full-time quantity food production in a commercial, military, hospital, or institutional setting; OR successful completion of a military, vocational, or community college program in commercial cooking; OR employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time work as a Food Service Worker.


The mission of Woodward Resource Center is to prepare and support individuals to live in the community of their choice. Discharge planning begins at admission.


As Part Of The WRC Team


  • Serves food.
  • Units.
  • Portions and transports food for delivery to serving lines, facility houses, and Woodward Academy
  • Successfully complete assigned training. Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Mashed, and ground consistencies utilizing recipes and facility guidelines.
  • Ensures food prepared is of the appropriate temperature to meet food safety standards.
  • Monitors and maintains appropriate food temperatures and utilizes safe food handling techniques.
  • Prepares food modified for texture to meet needs of individuals with dysphagia including pureed,
  • Completes daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning assignments, including work areas, equipment,
  • Sweeping and mopping, general sanitation, and assigned sanitation related duties.
  • Serves food on tray line and cafeteria serving lines.
  • Follow recipes to prepare variety of menu items including entrees, vegetables, baked items,
  • Completes assigned record keeping, such as temperature logs and recipe feedback.
  • Salads, using commercial food service equipment.
  • Preparation of food for up to 500 people.
