Job Description

Duties

  • Prepares performance requirements and work schedules in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Participates in determining performance improvement and quality control activities.
  • Work independently to prepare and cook a variety of items including regular and therapeutic diet (diabetic, low sodium, low protein, gluten free, etc.) entrees and dessert items.
  • Interviews applicants for positions in Food Production/Service areas and recommends appropriate selections for hiring, promotion and re-assignments of employees.
  • Use resources to operate within a planned financial budget; shares in the managerial responsibility for the proper supervision of labor, allocation of subsistence and supplies and all other resources required to accomplish quality Veteran centered meal services.
  • May serve as designee to maintain and monitor COR local contracts as directed by NFS Leadership.
  • Ensures compliance with food safety and sanitation based on HACCP guidelines, NFS procedures and policies, and VACO policies to ensure food safety in food preparation and storage in the facility food service establishment(s).
  • Responsible for independently coordinating/directing the operation of the food service/production areas using standards, procedures, diet manual, modified menus and production sheets to guide the work.
  • Oversees safety and sanitation program.
  • Provide technical direction and training when scheduling work operations with complex work steps and processes.
  • Develops, documents and evaluates standards of work performance in development of performance plans.

Work Schedule: 5:00am-8:00pm varying schedule, Sunday through Saturday, holidays included.

Physical Requirements: Physical effort is moderate. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, lifting and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier with assistance. Must be able to drive for a minimum of a four-hour period and stay mentally alert. If driver realizes they are not mentally alert, they must use good judgment in pulling over at the first safe area, road checking vehicle with walk-around inspection, and continue driving as soon as possible. Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of weather. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. Employee may have daily contact with tubercular, psychiatric, and other handicapped patients, transport deceased veterans. Must have ability to drive in rural areas, very congested Metropolitan traffic and/or construction zones. Must safely handle patients, both litter and wheelchair, in loading and unloading from vans and buses.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
