We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Real Estate Portfolio Controller. As the Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a 15-20 entity real estate portfolio. This is a key leadership role within our organization, and you will be tasked with implementing systems and processes, as well as providing oversight for the Profit and Loss (P&L) and Balance Sheet (BS) statements generated by a team of three accountants. This position is based in Los Angeles and requires in-person presence from Monday to Friday.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review timely and accurate financial statements, including P&L statements and BS reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Coordinate the development and monitoring of annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts for the real estate portfolio, providing insights and recommendations to optimize financial performance.
- Audit Support: Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation and ensuring a smooth audit process.
- Internal Controls: Establish and maintain effective internal controls, ensuring compliance with company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with industry best practices and regulatory changes related to real estate accounting and finance, proactively identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
- Financial Oversight: Oversee the financial operations of the real estate portfolio, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all financial processes.
- Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to a team of three accountants, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Conduct performance evaluations, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for the team.
- Systems and Process Implementation: Develop and implement streamlined systems and processes for financial reporting, analysis, and control, in collaboration with the accounting team and other relevant stakeholders.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, identify trends, and present findings to senior management, offering strategic recommendations for improving financial performance and mitigating risks.
- Liaison and Collaboration: Serve as a key liaison between the accounting team and other departments within the organization, fostering effective communication, collaboration, and cross-functional alignment.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A CPA designation is highly preferred.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in a senior-level accounting or finance role, preferably within the real estate industry.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and real estate accounting practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present financial information to senior management.
- Proficiency in relevant accounting software and tools.
- Advanced proficiency in financial analysis, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and a track record of fostering a positive work environment.
- Experience overseeing financial operations for multiple entities and managing a team of accountants.
